GENERAL JOB SUMMARY:
The Director, Career and Community Education is responsible for the administration of open enrollment programs of the Continuing Education division and Career Pathway programs. This includes being a member of the division’s administrative team and providing leadership through effectively administering the development and delivery of educational programs to a variety of audiences. This individual works with team members to develop strategies and goals to meet and exceed department performance measures and benchmarks.
The typical work schedule for this position will be Monday through Friday from 8 am to 5 pm. There is a potential for required attendance of events/meetings outside of this standard schedule on an as needed basis.UNIVERSAL CORE COMPETENCIES:

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Responsible for budgeting, monitoring, projections, and financial oversight of the open enrollment business unit.
- Oversee the development of new and innovative programs for the Continuing Education division that meets the interests of the populations being served including accepted metrics for new offerings, cancellation rates, enrollments, class size, income, and operating margins.
- Leads teams in the development and delivery of educational programs, courses, and content.
- Serves as the knowledge expert within the division for the Competency Based Education (CBE) and Guided Pathways initiatives to ensure integration and design of programs across institutional programs.
- Collaborates in shaping and leading initiatives to articulate credit-to-noncredit pathways, enhancing educational alignment and student mobility.
- Engages with community, college, and business partners to meet the needs of students, employers, and community.
- Provides strategic guidance to the Career and Community Education department to ensure alignment with divisional and institutional goals.
- Facilitates current and establishes new partnerships within the college and the community.
- Supervises staff performance to ensure accountability, effectiveness, and alignment with departmental objectives.
- Fosters ongoing professional growth in support of divisional priorities and Kirkwood’s institutional goals.
- Perform other related work duties as assigned.

- Partner with the institution’s Applied Science programs to develop adult career pathways and ensure effective utilization of institutional resources.

PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES WITH/WITHOUT REASONABLE ACCOMMODATION:

Position involves working in an office setting. Occasional (10-33%) standing, pushing, pulling and grasping. Frequent (34-66%) reaching and viewing a computer and other types of close visual work. Constant (67-100%) sitting, walking, repetitive motion, talking and hearing.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
-
- Bachelor's degree in education, curriculum design, planning, business, or sales
- Five years' work experience in program development/management, training and education, curriculum development, or business management
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS, LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, OR REGISTRATIONS:
- Masters Degree
- Experience in overseeing a college credit program, non-credit department or other educational department
- Must be self-motivated, energetic, and creative individual with proven leadership, planning, and administrative skills
- Possess excellent conceptual and planning skills and be able to relate well with other professional educators within the College and at other institutions
- Possess knowledge of education trends that enable leading the department to meet the emerging educational needs
- Possess knowledge of technology and its applications to current programs and new program development
- Possess strong human relations skills. Get along with diverse personalities.
- Read, understand, and express oneself clearly and effectively in oral and written form
