Environmental Supervisor

The State Hygienic Laboratory in Coralville is looking for an Environmental Supervisor, within the Air Quality Section of the Environmental Health Division. The Environmental Supervisor will provide environmental and public health information as a part of achieving overall health for the public and quality of the environment through operation and maintenance of the ambient air quality monitoring network in Iowa. This includes supervision of environmental analysts and specialists, compliance with federal and state regulatory requirements, data analysis and report preparation for clients, communication with satellite laboratories and agencies, and sample collection and processing. Additional responsibilities may include response to emergency situations including moni toring of fire emissions and potentially illegal activities that result in acute and/or chronic air quality degradation. Active participation in professional development opportunities and promotion of the ambient air monitoring program in Iowa is an expectation.

Qualifications:
Education or Equivalency Required
- A Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Biology, or a science with emphasis on analytical chemistry or an equivalent combination of education and experience in a similar type of laboratory is required.
Required Qualifications
- Demonstrates a minimum of 3 years working knowledge of maintaining, servicing, and calibration of Air Quality monitoring equipment.
- Demonstrates the ability to work with a variety of individuals, both as part of a team and in a leadership role.
- Extensive proficiency with Windows based systems, computer and digital operations.
- Demonstrates effective communication, using varied tools and techniques to transmit, receive, and interpret information, both written and verbally.
- Possession of a valid state or commercial driver's license, and the ability to meet University Fleet Safety Standards.
Highly Desirable Qualifications
- Demonstrates a working knowledge of EPA ambient air quality regulations.
- Demonstrates a working knowledge maintaining, servicing and calibration of weigh lab equipment.
Desirable Qualifications
- Demonstrates the ability to participate in the improvement and implementation of Air Quality operations.
- Demonstrates familiarity of PurpleAir/Small Sensor sampling network.
- Demonstrates a working knowledge of the writing, reviewing, and editing of Standard Operating Procedures.
- Demonstrates sound business ethics and consistently adheres to and promotes the values and principles in all business and personal transactions at a basic proficiency level.
- Demonstrated experience leading teams.
Successful candidates will be required to self-disclose any conviction history and will be subject to a criminal background check, credential/education verification and verification of a valid state or commercial driver’s license, and ability to meet University Fleet Safety Standards. Up to 5 professional references will be requested at a later step in the recruitment process.
