PET / CT Technologist

Physicians’ Clinic of Iowa is seeking a full time PET/CT Technologist to perform exams for our busy Imaging Clinic.
Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
- Collaborate with PCI physicians and contracted radiologists to determine the most appropriate PET/CT exam tailored to demonstrate the patient’s pathology for optimal diagnostic accuracy.
- Perform high-quality PET/CT diagnostic exams in a timely, professional, and patient-centered manner.
- Calculate and administer prescribed PET radiopharmaceuticals accurately and safely.
- Maintain accurate and detailed records of all PET/CT exams and results and ensure all scans are exported to the appropriate radiology office for interpretation.
- Ensure proper documentation, tracking, and handling of radioactive materials in accordance with regulations.
- Iowa D.O.T. Certification Prepare PET/CT equipment and coordinate exam setup, including protocol selection, control panel configuration, injector settings, and intercom functionality.
- Calibrate radiation detection instruments according to accepted standards for quality control.
- Educate patients and their families on the PET/CT procedure in an empathetic and clear manner.
- Prepare patients for imaging, including screening, removing metal objects, administering oral prep, and providing appropriate garments.
- Perform intravenous access, drawing, and administering nuclear isotope injections by manually
- Position patients correctly and comfortably to ensure optimal image quality and safety.
- Monitor and evaluate patient condition throughout the imaging process, observing color, responsiveness, body movement, and awareness.
- Adhere to established ALARA radiation safety principles to ensure personal and patient exposure are as low as reasonably achievable.
- Utilize knowledge of cross-sectional anatomy and pathology to obtain high-quality diagnostic images.
- Ensure compliance with all PCI, State, Federal, and ACR PET/CT imaging standards and regulations.
- Manage inventory and order PET/CT department supplies, including both office and medical materials.
Requirements:

- Excellent communication skills are essential. Candidates must be or become proficient in the use of computer systems, including electronic medical records (EMR).
- The qualified candidate should have the ability to perform PET/CT procedures, primarily Oncology, demonstrating sound understanding of anatomical positioning and physiology so that independent selection and modification of technical factors may produce optimal results.
- Also have the ability to perform all Nuclear Hot Lab procedures, including equipment calibration, quality testing and nuclear material handling in accordance with NCR, IDPH and ACR practice standards.
- Must be a graduate of an approved Nuclear Medicine program with current A.R.R.T.(N) registration required; additional A.R.R.T(R) registration preferred.
- Must have a current IDPH Nuclear Medicine Iowa Permit to Practice; additional IDPH Radiographer Permit to Practice preferred.
- Minimum 2 years PET/CT clinical experience preferred.
- Ability to perform Diagnostic CT and certification preferred.
- CPR certification required- ACLS preferred.
