About the Position:
Performs civil engineering work and manages the Survey Team to support the planning, design, and inspection of Linn County infrastructure projects. Leads technical operations including surveying, drafting, and construction review, while serving as a key liaison to foremen, contractors, and the public. Applies sound engineering judgment and leadership to ensure project quality, regulatory compliance, and effective coordination from project inception to closeout.

Examples of Duties: 

  • Manages engineering technicians and directs engineering services including surveying, design, inspection, and contract administration
  • Makes project design decisions and performs plan reviews, making necessary changes to plans and verifying design specifications 
  • Conducts field reviews of projects to ensure compliance with IDOT specifications, project plans, and construction standards
  • Coordinates with district foreman and maintenance staff to address right-of-way needs, culvert sizing, and project logistics
  • Communicates regularly with the public on contract project status, road closures, and resolves construction related concerns

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or related engineering field required.
  • Over four (4) years of civil engineering experience required.
  • Professional Engineer license with continuing education requirement must be up to date.

Shift: Monday – Friday | 7 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.

Salary Range:
$97,260/$101,150* - $116,986/$121,665*
*Effective 7/1/26
