Hourly Wage:
- New Hire: $33.55
- 90 days: $35.30
- 1 year: $37.17
- 2 years: $39.11
- 3 years: $41.28
About Public Health Nurse:
- Two positions available.
- Performs generalized professional and public health nursing duties primarily through participation in clinics and communicable disease programs.
Essential Functions
- Investigates cases of sexually transmitted disease (STD) and conducts confidential interviews with patients to identify contact and prevent further spread of the disease.
- Reviews laboratory reports for confirmed cases of STD, tuberculosis, or other communicable disease.
- Interviews hepatitis patients and ensures immunization of close contacts.
- Answers telephone inquiries and refers calls to appropriate clinic, physician or agency.
- Makes home visits to individuals in connection with communicable disease programs.
- Gives instructions in home care of patients and maintains follow-up on tuberculosis cases.
- Keeps records, prepares reports and attends staff meetings and conferences.
- Performs HIV/AIDS pre and posttest counseling, partner notifications and referrals as needed.
- Assists in various clinics for sexually transmitted diseases and immunization.
- Preforms disease investigation for reportable infections such as E-coli and whooping cough.
- Works with the Iowa Department of Health and Human Services during disease outbreaks
- Provides education to providers and the public regarding infection control
- Provides immunizations to children and adults
Minimum Qualifications & Requirements
Candidates must have one of the following:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing required and 6 months to 1 year of experience in public health nursing
OR
- Associate degree in Nursing and 3 to 5 years of experience in an acute care setting

- Monday - Friday
- 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
