Industrial Maintenance Intern (Part Time)

GENERAL JOB SUMMARY: 

Kirkwood Community College seeks a skilled and enthusiastic individual to join our team as lab intern in Industrial Maintenance program.  The successful candidate will have a good knowledge base in Electrical theory including 3 phase, NEC, residential and commercial wiring, applied electrical math, mechanical drives, electrical and mechanical maintenance. Tutoring experience at the college level is desirable.  Primary duties will include tutoring students in the lab, and in their studies outside of class. It is preferred that they would be knowledgeable in the safety standards to keep students safe in the lab. It is also preferable that this individual be able to lecture in these subjects if another instructor would need to be absent. They must also be willing to build, repair, and maintain lab equipment. Must be available to assist in daytime classes.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Monitor lab spaces, including set up and tear down of equipment for classes.
  • Serve as a peer mentor to international students. 
  • Communicate with department staff, students, and faculty on a regular basis.
  • Perform other related work duties as assigned.

  • Effectively instruct and communicate material for the course.
  • Abide by and enforce safety rules when in a lab setting.

PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES WITH/WITHOUT REASONABLE ACCOMMODATION:

Position involves working in an office setting. Occasional (10-33%) standing, pushing, pulling and grasping. Frequent (34-66%) reaching and viewing a computer and other types of close visual work. Constant (67-100%) sitting, walking, repetitive motion, talking and hearing. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must have experience in the field or in the material covered in the courses. Basic computer skills required.

  • Has had experience lecturing and training in the lab
