As the Diesel Truck and Trailer Service Manager, you will run the shop, set the standard, and shape the next generation of technicians—using real work, real equipment, and modern computer-based training (CBT). You will spend your time solving problems, improving systems, and making sure work is done right the first time.
This role is ideal for a seasoned technician who enjoys leading by example, keeping the shop running smoothly, and taking pride in seeing others succeed—without sitting in a classroom or dealing with corporate nonsense.
What You’ll Be Doing
Running a Strong, Efficient Shop
- Manage daily service workflow and priorities
- Oversee preventive maintenance, diagnostics, fuel systems, electrical systems, brakes, suspension, and steering
- Ensure work is completed correctly, safely, and efficiently
- Set the pace and quality standard for the shop
Developing Technicians the Right Way
- Assign and track computer-based training (CBT) modules
- Reinforce training with hands-on, real-world work
- Validate skills in the shop after training is completed
- Help technicians grow from entry-level to confident, capable professionals
Leading Without Micromanaging
- Supervise technicians and trainees during daily operations
- Provide practical coaching, feedback, and performance guidance
- Promote professionalism, accountability, and pride in workmanship
- Support long-term technician growth and career paths
Safety, Cleanliness, and Professional Standards
- Enforce safety rules and PPE usage
- Maintain OSHA-aligned practices
- Keep the shop clean, organized, and professional
- Address safety issues quickly and document corrective actions
Fleet & Operations Coordination
- Coordinate service work with fleet maintenance schedules
- Balance productivity with long-term technician development
- Keep equipment moving while building bench strength in the shop
Tracking Progress (Without Busywork)
- Track technician progress and CBT completion
- Maintain clear service and training records
- Provide straightforward updates to leadership on shop performance and technician readiness
Required Qualifications
- Seven or more years of diesel technician experience
- Strong diagnostic skills across modern diesel platforms
- Ability to explain how and why systems work
- Valid drivers license
- Class A CDL preferred, but not required
- DTNA / Freightliner training certifications or equivalent OEM certifications (Detroit Diesel, Cummins, PACCAR, Volvo, or similar)
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior service manager, lead technician, or supervisory experience
- Fleet maintenance experience
- Advanced OEM diagnostic or factory training credentials
- Experience mentoring apprentices or junior technicians
