The CFO/Vice President of Finance and Administration is a strategic executive responsible for leading all financial operations at United Way of East Central Iowa. This includes budgeting, financial planning, accounting, audits, internal reporting and ensuring the organization's fiscal health and sustainability.

In addition to financial leadership, the CFO administers Human Resources and manages relationships with third-party providers for Information Technology and Facilities planning/management. This role ensures that these critical support functions align with organizational goals and operate efficiently and effectively.

As a key member of the Leadership team, the CFO partners with the President/CEO to guide strategic decision-making and long-term planning.

Essential Job Functions:

Finance, Planning & Operations

  • Lead the development and presentation of financial reports for the Executive team and Board of Directors.
  • Design and implement the annual budgeting process, financial forecasting, and strategic financial planning.
  • Oversee month-end close activities including accounts receivable/payable, bank reconciliations, and revenue/expense tracking.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP, FASB standards, and all relevant laws and regulations.
  • Maintain financial integrity through robust internal controls and accurate data systems.
  • Direct the performance of the Finance & Administration staff.
  • Lead the UWECI Finance, Investment, and Operations Committees.
  • Manage cash flow, banking relationships, pledge reporting, endowment funds, and capital expenditures.
  • Oversee financial audits, Form 990 preparation, and grant compliance.
  • Conduct risk assessments and recommend mitigation strategies.

 

Human Resources

  • Manage all employment functions including hiring, onboarding, payroll, benefits administration, and offboarding.
  • Ensure compliance with employment laws and mitigate risks associated with employment practices.
  • Evaluate and recommend benefit plans for approval and lead the annual open enrollment process to ensure comprehensive coverage and compliance.
  • Oversee employee training, development initiatives, and performance review processes.

 

Information Technology & Infrastructure

  • Maintain oversight and accountability for external Information Technology service delivery.
  • Collaborate with the Senior Manager of Data Services to design and implement strategic plans for technology enhancements.
  • Oversee the planning, development, and administration of data systems.
  • Direct the development and maintenance of organizational infrastructure.

 

Facility Planning and Supervision

  • Collaborate with the external property manager to ensure proper care and maintenance of the facility.
  • Support the President/CEO in strategic planning, development, and oversight of facility operations and constructions projects.
  • Prepare and manage capital and operational budgets to support facility needs and long-term infrastructure goals.
  • Oversee the negotiation, execution, and administration of facility management contracts.
  • Manage organizational insurance policies including general liability, Directors & Officers, commercial crime, employee theft, and workers compensation.

 

Leadership & Strategic Planning

  • Actively contribute as a member of the Leadership Team, collaborating on the development and execution of strategic initiatives.
  • Exemplify strong leadership through effective decision-making, team guidance, and strategic influence.
  • Serves as Interim CEO as needed, ensuring continuity of leadership and organizational stability.
