The Cedar Rapids Metro Economic Alliance and Downtown Self-Supported Municipal Improvement District (SSMID) are seeking a reliable and motivated Part-Time Maintenance Specialist to support the cleanliness, safety, and overall appearance of Downtown Cedar Rapids. This role helps maintain the streetscape and public spaces within the Downtown SSMID District.

Key Responsibilities

• Support maintenance services outlined in the Downtown SSMID District

• Operate equipment used for litter collection, sidewalk sweeping/scrubbing, and weed removal

• Collect and dispose of litter and debris from sidewalks, curbs, alleys, flower beds, and grates

• Remove graffiti using scraping, painting, or appropriate cleaning chemicals

• Clean and maintain benches, signage, trash receptacles, and light poles (including cobweb removal)

• Perform seasonal duties such as planting flowers, hanging banners, tree maintenance, weatherizing benches, and snow/ice removal

• Assist with event setup and teardown in downtown districts

• Support minor grounds and facility repairs as directed

• Maintain, inspect, and properly care for tools and equipment; report maintenance needs

• Read and interpret equipment manuals and work orders

• Use hand and power tools, material handling equipment, and related maintenance tools

• Follow all safety procedures and maintain clean, organized work areas

Qualifications

• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions

• Comfortable performing physical tasks including walking, bending, lifting, and operating equipment

• Basic knowledge of maintenance tools and equipment preferred

• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions

• Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety
