Part-time Bookkeeper

Westminster Presbyterian Church seeks a part-time bookkeeper (15 hours per week) to handle a variety of financial operations for the church including, but not limited to recording and maintaining financial information for all congregation funds, handling payroll and accounts payable. Successful candidate will have a working knowledge of QuickBooks™ software and previous experience keeping books. This position does not include benefits. POSITION RESPONSIBLE TO: Head of Staff / Treasurer

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  1. Associate or Bachelor's Degree in business, finance, or related field
  2. Two or more years experience as a bookkeeper
  3. Knowledge of Quick Books, Microsoft Excel, and other office softwares
  4. Knowledge of automatic deposit payroll systems and related employer payroll tax reporting
  5. Able to work in a confidential work environment with sensitive information
  6. Knowledge of flow thru accounts beneficial

GENERAL DUTIES

  1. Responsible for recording and maintaining financial information for all funds of the congregation, including operating, rental, and capital.
  2. Reconcile accounts and prepare financial reports monthly.
  3. Other duties as assigned by Head of Staff.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Keep records of cash receipts and disbursements, per policy and the budget established by Session.
    • Record weekly deposits in QuickBooks desktop.
    • Prepare checks for all disbursements and post such payments to the accounting records.
    • Maintain all payroll records, make property, liability payments, and provide the staff with required reports.
    • Print monthly reports from QuickBooks desktop for the Treasurer (cash receipts and disbursements, revenue/expense against budget, balance sheet, etc.) and create additional Excel reports
    • Enter Journal Entries monthly and yearly.
  2. Prepare and file all necessary tax reports, make timely payments of all tax obligations and year-end W-2's.
  3. Reconcile all bank accounts monthly.
  4. Ensure that financial documents including QuickBooks desktop are regularly backed up to the WPC server.
  5. Support the annual external audit/review of the church's financial/accounting records.
  6. Provide financial information and reports as requested by Head of Staff (designated funds, ministry team accounts, memorials, foundation, etc.)
  7. Attend any meetings that involve Bookkeeper, such as financial, staff etc.
