UI Health Care Information Systems is seeking a Business Intelligence Developer to support a variety of key initiatives involving clinical and financial reporting for Critical Access and Rural Health Hospitals. Strong candidates will have demonstrated experience leveraging Epic Clarity data models and the Epic Cogito suite (Reporting Workbench, Radar Dashboard, Slicer Dicer, Crystal Reports, Cogito security) to drive customer outcomes. Expectations include technical fluency with SQL, strong critical think ing and problem-solving skills, the ability to interpret and evaluate user requests and offer appropriate solutions, and comprehensive validation of data services.

Core job duties include:

  • Providing technical leadership, direction, and technical support for the development, configuration and ongoing maintenance to analytic components of Epic electronic health record systems.
  • Provide analysis, design, documentation, development, testing, implementation and maintenance of user interfaces, interactive reporting, dashboards, and data extracts.
  • Partner in the education, support, and training of new staff members within critical access hospitals.
  • Use OLAP and OLTP technologies along with knowledge of data warehouse/data marts to write SQL queries and retrieve data from relational databases.
  • Configure complex operational, project-related and strategic reporting using data from the electronic health record and related systems.
  • Perform data validation and integrated testing, recommend technical design and procedures for new or revised applications.
  • Collaborate with developers to review code, orchestrate change management and document knowledge.

Education Required:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, MIS, or related discipline or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.

Required Qualifications:

  • Typically, 5-7 years of application development experience as a lead programmer or technical expert in a complex computing environment
  • Knowledge of data warehouse fundamentals
  • Strong experience in SQL with the ability to write complex queries and performance tune
  • Proven track record of researching, organizing, analyzing, and synthesizing data to support effective decision making
  • Demonstrated ability to work with multi-disciplinary teams to define system requirements and understand business reporting outcomes
  • Demonstrated organizational and project management skills with the ability to multi-task and work independently, as well as cooperatively with others
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills as well as strong customer service skills
  • Demonstrated job-related experience with and/or commitment to diversity in a work/academic environment

Desired Qualifications:

  • Epic certifications(s) related but not limited to the following: Clarity Data Model, Radar, Cogito Fundamentals, Cogito Tools Administration, EpicCare Ambulatory, EpicCare Inpatient, EpicCare Procedure Orders, Resolute Hospital Billing, Resolute Professional Billing
  • Experience working with clinical or financial reporting
  • Experience working with vendors to define system requirements, integration strategies, and implement interfaces.
  • Experience with Cogito Crystal Reports integration
  • Experience working with technical and non-technical staff to refine and manipulate data using Microsoft Excel
  • Experience supporting an EHR in a rural ambulatory or hospital setting
  • Experience providing education, support, and training of new staff members and customers
