Coe College seeks qualified candidates for the position of Director of Human Resources. 

This position is a partner to strategic business functions and cultural development and practices, partnering with offices across campus to identify needs and implement processes that support and foster the talent and culture of the college. They will plan, lead, and manage human resources functions for the college, including the recruitment of talent, onboarding, benefits, payroll, employee relations and employment law.  Consult with faculty, staff and managers/supervisors regarding a wide array of human resources needs, maintaining positive communication and relationships, and providing expertise as needed. 

Essential Job Responsibilities:

  • Compensation and Benefits (30%)
    • Oversee payroll administration and processes.
    • Oversee benefit selection, administration and lead planning for the retirement plan oversight committee.
    • Maintain classification system/compensation program, reviewing salary data to ensure equity, providing guidance and data to senior leadership and faculty committees as requested.
    • Oversee implementation of annual salary increases and total compensation.
  • Employee/Labor Relations (10%)
    • Consult with departments and managers/supervisors regarding staff performance management or progressive discipline, leading investigations and separation processes as necessary.
    • Provide employee and labor relations resources and expertise, interpreting and amending policy as necessary.  Interpret contract language and act as a resource for compliance with collective bargaining agreements, participating in contract negotiation when needed.
  • Employment/Talent Management (25%)
    • Coordinate recruitment process, provide resources/consultation as needed for: job descriptions, advertising sources, interview/selection, and maintenance of recruitment records.
    • Develop and implement recruiting strategies that further the college goals to become a more diverse faculty and staff community.
    • Oversee and direct new employee orientation and onboarding programs, including resources for supervisors and department support positions.
    • Maintain performance review templates, process, and tracking of completion.
    • Develop and facilitate education for managers/supervisors, employee development and compliance.
  • Compliance/Administrative (25%)
    • Interpret policy and provide guidance for required employment processes, including completion of background checks, employment verifications, and unemployment claims completed by HR Assistant.
    • Coordinate compliance with state, federal and higher education requirements related to human resources, providing reports as necessary.
    • Oversee accuracy of Human Resource Information System (HRIS) data and process for any salary surveys and required reporting for Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS), Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO), etc.
    • Maintain personnel and medical files and provide resources for management files/record keeping.  Maintain organization charts.
    • Serve as a deputy Title IX Coordinator, partnering on policy with Title IX Coordinator, particularly for components affective faculty and staff, and investigation policies. Lead decisions for process of Title IX investigations involving faculty and staff.
  • Employee Engagement (10%)
    • Create/administer employee engagement/retention programs – recognition, cultural management and other institutional programs.
    • Participate in Staff Advisory Group (SAG), serving as a resource and partner in staff retention and development opportunities.
    • Partner with Health and Wellness to provide employee opportunities for well-being assessment and programming.
    • Partner with the Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) to offer programming, education, and development opportunities for faculty and staff.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, human resources or a related field and at least three years human resources experience in a generalist role.  Master’s degree in Human Resources, business administration or related field preferred.
  • PHR/SPHR or SHRM CP/SCP preferred.
  • Ability to complete Title IX Investigator certification.
  • Successful completion of a background and credit checks in accordance with Coe College policy.

  • Ability to utilize critical thinking skills to analyze organizational needs, evaluate financial resources, and make recommendations to employees and leaders at all levels.
  • Ability to present information publicly and positively, through education in compliance, development and compensation/benefits.
