The individual will support the IRRC in its legislated role (per SF 2356) to develop and oversee a dyslexia specialist endorsement for experienced Iowa educators and provide stakeholders current information on dyslexia via the IRRC’s website, eLearning platform, and social media. In addition, the individual will support the IRRC’s overall mission (per IAC 281.61) to research and inform effective practices for the assessment and intervention of preK-12 students with reading difficulties.
This is a 12- month, specified term position with possibility for annual renewal. This full-time position is located on site in Iowa City, Iowa in the College of Education Iowa Reading Research Center.
Key areas of responsibilities include Operational Management, Initiation and Planning, Communication and Outreach and Metrics and Reporting.
Specific Job Tasks:
• Assisting the IRRC Director with the development and oversight of the dyslexia endorsement program
• Staying abreast of current research and policies on dyslexia
• Contributing to IRRC research projects related to dyslexia
• Providing assistive technology consultations and assessment services for families of preK-12 children with characteristics of dyslexia
• Developing dyslexia content for the IRRC’s website, eLearning platform, and social media
• Creating dyslexia tools and other resources for supporting stakeholders
• May serve as an adjunct instructor for courses in the dyslexia program.

Education Requirement:
• Bachelor’s degree in education, special education, or communication sciences and disorders or a combination of equivalent relevant work experience and education
Required Qualifications:
• Minimum 3 years’ experience as a certified classroom teacher
• Experience assessing and teaching students with characteristics of dyslexia
• Experience developing literacy lessons aligned to systematic, explicit instruction
• Strong writing ability as evidenced by application materials required and 2 writing submissions included as part of the application process and may include the following: scholarly report of information about reading instruction, reading development, or dyslexia; narrative; report of dyslexia assessment results; practitioner -oriented report of how to implement effective literacy instruction; or technical information on literacy presented in lay-friendly language and mark them as a "Relevant File" to the submission
Desirable Qualifications:
• Master’s degree in education, special education, or communication sciences and disorders
• Experience as an instructor in a teacher preparation program
• Experience delivering professional development to in-service educators
• Training in dyslexia instructional programs such as Wilson, IMSE, Barton, or other Orton-Gillingham-based curricula
• Experience working on research projects
