The Project Support Team Lead directly supervises up to 8 project support coordinators and specialists who assist design and construction project managers on all aspects of project management for capital and non-capital projects. Provides administrative oversight for design professional agreements, board of regent submissions and construction contracts and change orders. This position collaborates with the unit Associate Director in assigning projects and assessing workload of project support personnel.

This position is eligible for hybrid work within Iowa and will require a work arrangement form to be completed upon the start of your employment. Per policy, work arrangements will be reviewed annually, and must comply with the and .

Duties to Include:

  • Assist department with continuous improvement initiatives for processes and procedures.
  • Administers bid openings and makes determinations regarding any bid opening irregularities.
  • Reviews and monitors project budgets and required funding.
  • Provides direct supervision, leadership and coaching to project support staff.
  • Ensures time, resources, energy, learning opportunities, and actions are focused on priorities important to the changing workplace.
  • Promotes a workplace environment where people of all backgrounds and perspectives feel welcomed and appreciated, where every individual is empowered to make a positive impact, and in which workplace concerns are addressed effectively.
  • Participates in developing a variety of effective ways to deal with service challenges.

Location: University Services Building (USB)

Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00am-4:30pm

Design & Construction takes an integrated and sustainable approach to the long-term planning and management of the University of Iowa’s land, buildings, and historic resources. We facilitate and support decision making processes of Senior Administration and the in these areas.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Typically, 3-5 years of professional administrative experience in the design and construction industry, including experience understanding contracts and/or project manual specifications.
  • Experience in continuous process improvement and process development.
  • Experience in a higher education facilities management or complex institutional organization.
  • Experience administratively supporting multiple individuals in a fast-paced, multi-task environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Extensive proficiency in computer software applications, including Microsoft Office programs.
  • Experience with the following applications: SharePoint, Bluebeam and/or Adobe.
  • Professional experience working effectively with individuals from a variety of backgrounds and perspectives.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Previous supervisory experience.
  • Experience working with Architectural and Engineering documents.
