Business Development Representative 

The Olympic South Side Theater is a highly successful event venue located in the heart of Cedar Rapids’ NewBo neighborhood, providing a variety of community, corporate, and private events, including live music, comedy, and more. Primary Duties

We are looking to add a Business Development Representative to our team, focused on booking events and programs for the Olympic, with primary duties including:

  • Outbound leads: reaching out to corporate customers, bands, promoters to fill our calendar with high quality shows and events. 
  • Handling inbound leads: you’ll be the first point of contact for email, phone, or social media inquiries looking at potential bookings. You’ll be explaining the unique features of The Olympic and ensuring it's the right fit for our customers’ needs. 
  • Offering tours: giving in-person tours for prospective customers, showing off The Olympic and understanding each customer’s unique needs.
  • Closing deals: working with The Olympic’s General Manager to coordinate all of the details and then getting signed contracts.
  • Reporting: Keeping track of inquiries and providing simple reports to our team 

Other Responsibilities 

Though most of this role is involved in outreach before events take place, you’ll be expected to assist with some events and programs as needed. We want you to get the vibe of The Olympic, experiencing it firsthand, to help you make sure you can communicate with prospective customers so they can have the best possible experience. That might mean assisting with bartending or event operation from time to time.  

To be successful in this role you’ll need:

  • An outgoing personality, with attention to detail. 
  • The ability to sell value by helping customers envision how their event will be successful at The Olympic.
  • An affinity for connecting quickly with people to gain trust to collaboratively solve business problems.
  • 2-5 years of experience in event planning, marketing and/or sales.
  • An understanding of the local event market and competitive landscape.
  • Strong business acumen and judgment to make appropriate decisions as well as strong negotiation and follow through skills.
  • Excelling in communication, business development, relationship management, working autonomously and time management.

We'd prefer a full-time candidate, but are open to a creative part-time role for the right candidate.
