This position supports Mercy's philosophy of patient centered care by partnering with patients regarding healthy behavior change within the Ideal Protein Weight Loss Method program. This position promotes individualized, patient-directed goal-setting through the use of health coaching strategies, communication processes, health education and promotion that encourage patient engagement & self-efficacy in their personal health care by providing structure, accountability, and inspiration to enable an individual to learn, grow, and develop beyond what they can do alone.

Job Duties
  • Answers the telephone and disburses calls in a friendly, prompt, and professional manner. Convey messages accurately and appropriately via email, text or telephone within one business day.
  • Counsels patients on the Ideal Protein Weight-Loss Method. Weighs and measures patients on a weekly basis.
  • Educates patients on healthy food/lifestyle/behaviors and reviews food journals.
  • Provides an environment of acceptance in which the patient can identify personal obstacles and explore ambivalence without fear of judgment or repercussions to develop effective health related strategies.
  • Recognizes patient's learning style/needs, provides health information guided by patient's interest and evaluates understanding of information given. Refers patients to additional outside resources as necessary.
  • Identifies patient's current stage of change. Detects when patient initiates "change talk" to assist patient in moving forward to the next stage of change. Assess levels of behavior change per readiness, importance & confidence scales (0-10). Recognizes and helps manage discrepancies/gaps between behavior goals and their outcomes.
  • Documents patient's goals & progress in Electronic Medical Records and the Ideal Protein Idea/Smart online application. Tracks patient visits in Excel spreadsheet for reporting data.
  • Facilitates Ideal Protein Educational Seminars and Maintenance Sessions.  Meets regularly with Ideal Protein Physician Consultant.
  • Serves as administrator of Ideal Protein point of sale website.
  • Communicates effectively with MercyCare physicians regarding their patients while on the Ideal Protein Weight-Loss Method.
  • Organizes and coordinates scheduling and set up at annual MMC Wellness Fair.
  • Identifies opportunities to expand Ideal Protein market share and acts as a program leader in soliciting/enrolling/onboarding prospective dieters.
  • Responsible for the successful weight loss of the dieter through consistent support, communication, and use of program resources.
  • Provides night and weekend call support for active dieters and attends informational seminars twice per month in the evening.
  • Is a content expert and resource for all changes and updates to the program and it's delivery.  In addition, supports and leads service line growth.
  • Attends Ideal Protein Super Weekend training at a minimum every 18 months at the closest location available with supervisor approval along with any additional Ideal Protein workshops and training offered.
  • Provides coverage at other MercyCare Ideal Protein locations as needed.

Follows Mercy's safety guidelines, carries out job-specific safety duties and responsibilities, and promptly reports any unsafe conditions, situations, incidents and injuries.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Fully trained and proficient in Ideal Protein protocols and programs
  • Knowledge of motivational interviewing, appreciative inquiry, open-ended questions, and reflective listening
  • Communicates, orally and in writing appropriately and clearly to physicians, staff, patients and their families
  • Critical thinking skills
  • Computer skills, including Electronic Health Record System
  • Ability to teach self healthcare principles
  • Ability to support individuals in creating patient-centered SMART goals
  • Works alone as well as with others effectively
Professional Experience
  • Required: 2 years experience administering a Weight Loss Method program
  • Preferred: 3 years of clinical/weight loss experience in a healthcare setting related to the care of individuals who have multiple, complex, chronic clinic conditions
Education
  • High School Diploma required.
  • Associate’s Degree preferred.
Licensure, Certification, Registration
  • Current certification in Basic Cardiac Life Support, in accordance with the American Heart Association required.
