This full time position is located in Cedar Rapids, IA; however please expect receiving calls from a 952 number in case you are considered. Relocation assistance is not provided.

This will be a second shift role working Monday through Friday from 03:00 pm to 11:00 pm.

The Mill hand is primarily responsible for grinding, packaging, warehousing, shipping, and receiving operations in an automated work environment.  Ensures the product is produced efficiently, on time and according to specification. Supports Diamond Vā€™s commitment to product quality, product safety and regulatory compliance by following written and routine standard operating procedures. This includes observing food hygiene, food safety and cGMP practices when conducting assigned job duties.

Essential duties:Include but are not limited to the following. Other duties may be assigned as needed.
  • Grinding Process
  • Setups and adjustments, both mechanical and computerized
  • Start/stop
  • Monitor
  • Operate warehouse management system equipment to direct issue micro-add ingredients
  • Communicate status to Foreman
  • Packaging Process
  • Setups and adjustments, both mechanical and computerized
  • Start/stop
  • Monitor
  • Operate warehouse management system equipment to direct issue supplies, including bag stock
  • Communicate status to Foreman
  • Warehousing
  • Operate forklifts
  • Operate warehouse management system equipment to move pallets from one location to another
  • Receiving
  • Operate forklifts
  • Operate warehouse management system equipment to receive supplies and ingredients
  • Collect incoming ingredient samples.  Record all information specific to the sample
  • Shipping
  • Operate forklifts
  • Operate warehouse management system equipment to load finished product onto trucks
  • Communicate status to Foreman
  • Operate drying equipment as required
  • Perform equipment maintenance as needed
  • Housekeeping
  • Safety, EPA, HACCP and other Certification work order completion
  • Fumigation
  • Snow Removal
  • May be asked to perform Operator job duties or other job related duties as requested by supervisor.

Staffing Relationships:
  • Reports directly to the Foreman
  • Daily contact with other plant personnel, as well as customer and supplier truck drivers
  • Occasional contact with other employees, vendors, contractors, and customer.

Other Qualifications:
  • Ability to operate automated process equipment, including; batching, grinding, drying, packaging, palletizing, and warehouse management
  • Ability to use hand and power tools.
  • Perform basic mathematical skills (add, subtract, multiply, divide, and figure fractions and percentages).
  • Ability to obtain certification to handle fumigants and pesticides.
  • Ability to follow procedures and work in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Position involves frequent climbing indoors and outdoors up to 200 ft., stooping, kneeling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, and pulling to transport product and working with and on equipment operated.
  • May require a substantial amount of repetitive motion.
  • Occasional exposure to noise, dust, damp conditions, temperature extremes (unloading rail cars outside).
  • May be exposed to pesticide fumes when loading trucks.



  • Right to work in the U.S. that is not based solely on possession of a student visa or a visa sponsored by a third-party employer.
  • Cargill requires that employees be a minimum of 18 years old.
  • Must be able to perform physical job duties including bending/stooping, climbing ladders, open/close valves, shoveling, pounding with hammer and work in confined spaces.
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 55 pounds.
  • Must be able to work under special work conditions, such as extreme heat or cold.
  • Ability to work in elevated areas.
  • Must be able to operate machinery.
  • Must be able to operate heavy equipment.
  • Must be able to read/write English.
  • High School diploma or Equivalent.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Ability to work overtime.
  • Ability to work holidays, nights, weekends or different shifts.


  • Forklift certified.
  • Prior experience in feed or production related work.
