The LIMS Administrator is responsible for the configuration and maintenance of the SHL’s Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) that manages and supports the workflows of the SHL’s laboratory operations by codifying workflows, documenting the life-cycle of every sample that passes through the laboratory, providing insights to customers and laboratory staff through data analysis and visualization, and ensuring that all operations are compliant with applicable laws and regulati ons.
The LIMS Administrator’s job duties include working with SHL staff to configure new tests in the LIMS, coordinating the workflow of new test creations through the SHL’s IT workgroups, meeting with internal and external stakeholders to explore improvements to the SHL’s LIMS, translating user requests into technical specifications with estimated effort required, ensures that technical documentation is current and accurate as the system changes over time so that it may be used to create training materials, documenting and validating changes to the LIMS through using standardized and complete testing, configuration and testing of interfaces between the LIMS and laboratory instruments, development of reports based on client requirements, development and maintenance of scripts to automate routine tasks, and integrating the LIMS with other systems.

Hours: 8:00 am – 5 :00 pm, Monday – Friday

About the State Hygienic Laboratory
The State Hygienic Laboratory’s main facilities are headquartered on the University of Iowa's Research Park campus northwest of Iowa City in Coralville. Additional testing facilities are part of the Iowa Laboratory Facilities in Ankeny, a Des Moines suburb.
Since 1904, the State Hygienic Laboratory has been at the forefron t of public health issues in Iowa. As the state’s public health and environmental laboratory, the Hygienic Laboratory serves all of Iowa’s 99 counties through disease detection, environmental monitoring, and newborn and maternal screening.
Qualifications:
Education or Equivalency Required
- A Bachelor's degree in a STEM or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and related experience
Required Qualifications
- Experience (typically 1-3 years) supporting complex enterprise application(s) in a STEM based workplace.
- Demonstrated working knowledge and experience with:
- Laboratory Information Management System
- Help Desk Support
- Project Management
- Excellent communication, customer relations, and attention to detail skills
- Ability to apply critical thinking, technical problem solving, and analyzing system specifications.
- Willingness and ability to work a flexible schedule, including occasional evenings and/or weekends.
Desirable Qualifications
- Experience in a public health, clinical, or environmental health laboratory
- Experience with LIMS implementation
- Demonstrated strong organizational and personal project management skills
- Knowledge of public health programs
- Ability to contribute to a successful team-oriented work environment
