Leepfrog Technologies, Inc. provides its CourseLeaf software to more than 450 of the nation’s most academically complex colleges and universities to manage their academic catalogs, curriculum, section scheduling, registration, and syllabi management.

 

The ideal candidate will be thoroughly versed in the installation and maintenance of RedHat Enterprise Linux systems.  Candidates must be comfortable with the configuration of Apache web services, mail systems, Linux and networking fundamentals, and the ability to write scripts in an administrative language.  The candidate will be able to work in a flexible, team-oriented environment with a complex, heterogeneous system and network configuration.

 

Team Duties

  • Diagnose hardware and software problems, and replace defective components. Perform periodic performance reporting to support capacity planning.
  • Perform daily system monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of all hardware, server resources, systems, and key processes, reviewing system and application logs, and verifying completion of scheduled jobs such as backups.
  • Develop scripts and other software to automate system administration tasks.
  • Deploy and support services using cloud and virtual services environments such as AWS and Red Hat Virtualization
  • Oversee disaster recovery operations via successful back-up to the appropriate media, recovery disk creation, and ensure media is sent off-site as necessary.
  • Design, develop and maintain systems required for High Availability of services.
  • Perform regular file archival and purge as necessary. Monitor employee disk utilization, as needed.
  • Maintain and administer computer networks and related computing environments, including computer hardware, systems software, applications software, and all configurations.
  • Plan, coordinate, implement, and audit network and system security measures in order to protect data, software, and hardware.
  • Monitor and, if needed, recommend changes to improve systems and network configurations, and determine hardware or software requirements related to such changes.
  • Set up equipment for employee use, performing or ensuring proper installation of cables, computer hardware, operating systems, and appropriate software.
  • Develop training materials and procedures, train people in computer system use. Maintain commonly asked questions in an “FAQ” database for future reference by employees.
  • Assist Leepfrog staff with developing customer-facing documents and training materials
  • Work with Leepfrog’s customers to deploy and support web hosting, authentication, and other components of Leepfrog’s software.
  • Support a variety of web-based authentication technologies, including Shibboleth/SAML, CAS, and AD/LDAP.
  • Support a variety of third-party software tools.
  • Write and maintain technical documentation on departmental procedures.
  • Maintain logs related to network functions and equipment performance, as well as maintenance and repair records. Contribute to and maintain system standards.
  • Research new technology, and implement it or recommend its implementation.
  • Maintain an inventory of parts for emergency repairs. Install and perform repairs to hardware, software, and peripheral equipment, following design or installation specifications.
  • Coordinate with vendors and with company personnel in order to facilitate purchases.
  • Define the needs, benefits, and technical strategy of projects. Complete any research or technical analysis as requested; and support staff in executing, testing, and rolling out the solution(s).
  • Administer the creation, operation, modification, and deletion of usernames and passwords of employees in the system.
  • Apply OS patches and upgrades on a regular basis, and upgrade administrative tools and utilities. Configure/add new services as necessary.
  • Troubleshoot IT systems when there is an issue reported by computer users.
  • Implement security software and tools to ensure maximum security from outside threats.
  • Develop and maintain the most current product knowledge. Remain current on new developments in technology. 
  • Perform ad-hoc requests as needed.
  • Adhere to prescribed deadlines.
  • Able to occasionally work extended, evening, and/or weekend hours. Be available for 24/7 on-call rotation.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

A minimum of two (2) years' prior experience is required.  A bachelor’s degree, with a technical major such as computer science, or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required.  Linux Systems Administration/System Engineer, security, and cloud are plusses.  Customer service skills are required.  Experience with any of the following is beneficial: database administration, disaster recovery systems, network administration, cloud services such as AWS, and/or high availability environments.

 

Physical Requirements

The work environment includes typical computer-related noise levels and paper and equipment-generated dust. The incumbent is on call to provide support services during off-hours, as needed. Scheduled night and weekend work is occasionally required. Learned physical skill is required for keyboarding and the use of peripheral equipment. Must be able to regularly lift up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift up to 60 pounds.
