Senior Application Developer – Stork, Department of OB-Gyn

The University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics department of Health Care Information Systems is seeking a Senior Application Developer to provide technical leadership for enhancing and supporting the Epic Stork application and reporting as it relates to the Health Resources & Services Administration (HRSA) grant.

 

Core job duties include:

  • Provide technical leadership, direction, and technical support for the development, configuration and ongoing maintenance of Epic applications.
  • Collaborate with application owners and stakeholders to identify critical functional requirements for new or revised applications.
  • Develop technical design and procedures for new or revised applications.
  • Lead the review and analysis of system problems to identify solutions and/or make appropriate referrals.
  • Develop and maintain detailed project plans associated with system development, deployment, and ongoing support.
  • Wear a pager and providing some 24x7 on-call support.

Salary: $65,000 to commensurate – Paygrade 5B

Education Required

Bachelor’s degree in a related field or an equivalent combination of education and related application development/support experience

 

Required Qualifications

  • Experience in the development and/or support of applications used by non-technical customers to support and enhance business processes, typically 5-7 years for Senior Developer in leadership roles including experience with programming tools and a comprehensive understanding of database technologies (e.g., Caché, SQL Server)
  • Experience acting as the primary contact for the support, configuration and development of at least one healthcare enterprise application or area of functionality.
  • Experience working with application owners and/or vendors to define system requirements, integration requirements and understand business needs.
  • Demonstrated ability with converting business requirements into functional/technical specifications for complex integrated systems build.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and experience with basic project management.
  • Demonstrated ability communicating technical information effectively to technical and non-technical staff at the verbal, written and presentation levels.
  • Demonstrated job-related experience and/or commitment to diversity in the work/academic environment. 

 

Desirable Qualifications: 

  • Experience with any of the following workflows: obstetrics and gynecology nursing or physician documentation, standards of practice, reporting and discharge follow-up.
  • Experience supporting an EHR in an ambulatory or hospital setting.
  • Epic certification related but not limited to the following:  Stork, EpicCare Ambulatory, EpicCare Inpatient, Epic Clinical Tools, SmartForms.
  • Experience collaborating with technical and non-technical staff on system implementation projects.
  • Proven ability to write application test scripts.
  • Experience troubleshooting HL7 interfaces.
