Position Summary:

 

The University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics department of Health Care Information Systems (HCIS) and the Quality Improvement Program are seeking an experienced technical professional as a Senior Application Developer, Analytics and Reporting. HCIS provides and supports information and communication systems and technology that facilitate quality patient care, progressive medical education, and innovative research. HCIS serve University of Iowa Health Care by providing comprehensive, high level support for patient care delivery, internal and external communication, technology innovation, medical education, and research. Creating and maintaining a positive, productive, and rewarding environment for information technology and communication staff. Duties include:

  • Providing technical leadership, direction, and technical support for the development, configuration and ongoing maintenance to analytic components of Epic electronic medical records systems. 
  • Provide analysis, design, documentation, development, testing, implementation and maintenance of reporting use interfaces including alerts, screens, dashboards and templates supporting data analysis and reporting.
  • Partner in the education, support, and training of new staff members within the Quality Improvement Program.
  • Use OLAP and OLTP technologies along with knowledge of data warehouse/data marts to write SQL queries and retrieve data from relational databases. 
  • Configure complex operational, project-related and strategic reporting using data from the electronic health record and related systems. 
  • Perform data validation and integrated testing, recommend technical design and procedures for new or revised applications.

Salary: $67,000 to commensurate – 5B

Position Qualifications:

 

Education Required

 

A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, MIS, or related discipline or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.

 

  • Typically 5-7 years of application development experience as a lead programmer or technical expert in a complex computing environment
  • Knowledge of data warehouse fundamentals
  • Strong experience in SQL with the ability to write complex queries and performance tune
  • Proven track record of researching, organizing, analyzing, and synthesizing data to support effective decision making
  • Demonstrated ability to work with multi-disciplinary teams to define system requirements and understand business reporting needs
  • Demonstrated organizational and project management skills with the ability to multi-task and work independently, as well as cooperatively with others
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills as well as strong customer service skills
  • Demonstrated job-related experience with and/or commitment to diversity in a work/academic environment

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Working knowledge of Tableau
  • Experience providing education, support, and training of new staff members and customers

 

Desirable Qualifications

  • Familiarity with Epic applications and Clarity database structure
  • Experience with SQL Server Management Studio 2014, including SSIS
  • Experience with Business Objects XI4.1 or XI4.2 reporting tools (Information Design Tool, WEBI, Crystal Reports)
  • Experience with MS tools (e.g., Excel, Project, Visio, Access)
  • Experience working in a healthcare or health industry environment
