The University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics department of Health Care Information Systems (HCIS) are seeking an experienced technical professional as a Senior Application Developer, Cherwell Application within the Communication and Collaboration Division. HCIS provides and supports information and communication systems and technology that facilitate quality patient care, progressive medical education, and innovative research. HCIS serve University of Iowa Health Care by providing comprehensive, high level support for patient care delivery, internal and external communication, technology innovation, medical education, and research. Creating and maintaining a positive, productive, and rewarding environment for information technology and communication staff. To provide technical leadership and project management support for the development, configuration and implementation of Cherwell offerings. Provide technical support of all Cherwell related activities, ongoing maintenance of Cherwell offerings and the integration into clinical and business operation. 

Duties include:

·        Serve as technical lead on large-scale Cherwell projects by recommending technical design for new or revised objects and workflow while leading Cherwell build activities

·        Manage small-scale projects by developing project plans and leading project teams to ensure project goals and objectives are met

·        Provide technical support for all Cherwell service lines by assisting in resolving end users’ issues and concerns

·        Support ongoing maintenance of Cherwell and related applications and systems by participating in upgrade and testing activities

·        Work directly with customers to identify critical functional requirements for Cherwell offerings

·        Collaborate with application owners, stakeholders, vendors and information system teams to implement and support Cherwell offerings

·        Develop and maintain detailed support plans associated with ongoing maintenance and support of Cherwell service lines and related applications

·        Research, review, troubleshoot and analyze system opportunities and problems to identify solutions and/or make appropriate referrals

·        Collaborate with the University of Iowa Information Technology Services team in the use and development of Cherwell for academic use

·        May provide administrative and/or functional supervision over assigned staff (Senior level)

Pay Grade:

Salary: $65,000 to commensurate – 5B

Position Qualifications:

Education Required

Bachelor’s in a related field or an equivalent combination of education and related application development/support experience. 


·        Experience in the development and/or support of applications used by non-technical customers to support and enhance business processes, typically 5-7 years for Senior Developer in leadership roles including experience with programming tools, a comprehensive understanding of database technologies.

·        Experience contributing to the support, configuration and development of at least one IT Service Management tool

·        Experience working with application owners and/or vendors to analyze system and integration requirements.

·        Demonstrated ability to work independently with a strong focus on customer service utilizing established processes and procedures

·        Demonstrated knowledge of and experience with basic project management

·        Demonstrated ability using programming languages and tools for customizing vendor application software

·        Ability to collaborate and communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with technical and non-technical staff on system implementation projects

·        Demonstrated job-related experience with and/or commitment to diversity in a work/academic environment


Desirable Qualifications

·        Experience supporting Cherwell in a healthcare or academic setting

·        Demonstrated knowledge of and experience with any of the following data management methods: APIs, data imports, system integrations

·        Cherwell training related but not limited to the following: Cherwell Certified Administrator, CSM Foundations, Designer Essentials

·        Proven ability to write application test scripts

·        Experience implementing workflow, automated process and publishing blueprints

·        Project Management experience implementing and managing multiple small to large-scale projects. 

·        Understanding of the University General Ledger System

·        Experience with database design and table management
