This Professional & Scientific position will be filled as a Senior IT Director (PIM3) leading our Health Care Information Systems Communication and Collaborations Applications Division.  The successful candidate will divide their time between UIHC Support Services Building in Coralville and UIHC main campus in Iowa City.

Health Care Information Systems (HCIS): Provides and supports information and communication systems and technology that facilitate quality patient care, progressive medical education, and innovative research.

HCIS services University of Iowa Health Care enterprise by providing comprehensive, high level support for patient care delivery, internal and external communication, technology innovation, medical education, and research. Creating and maintaining a positive, productive, and rewarding environment for information technology and communication staff.

Position Summary:
Direct the selection, implementation and operational support of applications and services that support communication and collaboration activities within the health care enterprise.  Analyze, plan, prioritize, engage and direct staff to deliver critical communication and collaboration application services to UI Health Care faculty, staff, students, customers and where applicable the University enterprise. Work closely to coordinate with other HCIS division leaders, customer leads and partner with ITS and OneIT leadership to ensure successful progress on key institutional initiatives.

Position Responsibilities: 
  • Engage customer groups to understand unique communication and collaboration service requirements of different units within the enterprise and collaborate with other HCIS divisions and ITS and OneIT on strategy development, issues and projects relating to communication and collaboration services.
  • Build consensus among diverse constituencies within the organization regarding communication and collaboration requirements, workflows and solutions.
  • Evaluate utilization of existing communication and collaboration services. Build and enhance support for services and develop training solutions to educate user community.
  • Direct staff on project-related activities as they relate to the selection, implementation and support of communication and collaboration systems
  • Assist in the development of near-term and long-term road map for communication and collaboration services.
  • Act as a liaison with key customers and represent UI Health Care technology interests to internal and external parties.
  • Understand institutional goals and objectives, translates these goals and objectives into specific work plans for staff and delegate authority needed to ensure project progress and ensure accountability for staff performance.
  • Ensure projects and services meet customer and end user business needs and expectation.
  • Partner with internal and external department customers to assess and develop future strategy and improved delivery requirements.
  • Assist the Assoc. VP for Information Technology in setting strategic direction for information services at UI Health Care.
  • Hire, direct and evaluate the performance of assigned staff. Foster professional growth and succession planning.  Recommend salary increases, promotions, and progressive discipline including terminations.
  • Lead staff through continuous improvement and organizational change management initiatives.

Position Qualifications:         
Education Required
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Management Information Systems or an equivalent combination of education and related healthcare technology experience.

Experience Requirements
  • Experience (typically 10+ years) leading and guiding the mission-critical healthcare IT projects involving multi-disciplinary teams in a large environment with considerable (3-5 years) administrative and management experience.
  • Experience using, implementing and supporting enterprise communications and collaborations systems including, but not limited to Skype, Nurse Call, Voalte, RTLS.
  • Experience with inpatient and ambulatory clinical care workflows.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and lead a portfolio of projects with organizational effectiveness, within timelines and budgets.
  • Experience leading a customer service oriented team and developing initiatives to drive collaborative and service orientation skills throughout organization.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills; ability to articulate ideas to both technical and non-technical audience
  • Demonstrated job-related experience with and/or commitment to diversity in the work/academic environment.

Desirable Qualifications
  • Experience with change management, continuous improvement initiatives, ITIL, LEAN and project management
  • Experience working with diverse communities, internal and external to the organization, to define and deliver unified goals
  • Demonstrated ability to lead technical team to advance organizational objectives
  • Experience with analysis, planning, estimating, budgeting and scheduling of high-risk, high-impact IT projects.
  • Advanced proficiency with Project Management concepts and practices
  • Experience in succession planning and people development.
