Position Summary: The UI Health Care Marketing and Communications Web Team provides support for the organization’s major consumer facing web properties, including uihealthcare.org, uihc.org, uichildrens.org, and medicine.uiowa.edu. The developer will be responsible for the analysis, design, implementation, and support of UI Health Care’s Web-based communication efforts.  The employee will build new features and fix bugs on these websites.  

Position Responsibilities:
  • Provide support for websites running on Drupal (versions 7 and 8)–this includes site building, theming, and development of custom modules
  • Design and code landing pages for various marketing campaigns
  • Provide support for websites running on WordPress
  • Provide support for C# .NET applications
  • Work with colleagues in marketing to develop sites that highlight a particular clinic, service line, or service
  • Meet with non-technical peers and gather requirements for web projects
  • Work closely with constituents in concept and project development
  • Design, develop, and maintain web-based applications and pages for University of Iowa Health Care and its associated units–this may entail ensuring navigation and informational integrity, writing customized web applications (both server- and client-side), interacting with SQL data sources, and attending to accessibility guidelines
  • Apply search engine optimization methods and maximize visibility in an effort to drive target audiences to websites
  • Document applications, systems, and procedures
  • Follow web-based trends, applications, and technologies to allow University of Iowa Health Care to be a leader in technology integration
Education Required
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Experience Requirements
  • 3 years of relevant experience
  • Proficiency with at least one modern (object oriented) programming language (preferably PHP and C#)
  • Proficiency with HTML5, CSS, JavaScript, JQuery, and SQL (preferably MySQL)
  • Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills
  • Strong development and problem solving skills
  • Exceptional ability to communicate highly technical concepts to any audience
  • Experience with all aspects of the lifecycle of a web application; wireframing, design, frontend and backend
  • Understanding of web standards, web accessibility best practices
  • Proficient understanding of code versioning tools, such as git/mercurial/svn (we use git)
Desirable Qualifications
  • An advanced degree in a related field
  • Strong design aesthetic and good understanding of best practices in digital typography and layout
  • Experience working with Drupal (preferably versions 7 and 8)
  • Experience working with WordPress
  • Experience with CSS pre-processors
  • Experience with usability testing
  • Good understanding of SEO principles
  • Knowledge of web analytics tools (ex. Google Analytics, Webmaster Tools, Site Search, etc.)
  • Familiarity with web accessibility standards including WCAG 2.0 and WAI-ARIA
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Cloud particularly Photoshop
  • Basic knowledge of Linux administration
  • Knowledge of University of Iowa policies and procedures
