Want to work with cutting edge technology?  Want to work with most talented, dedicated people who care about the safety and security of our kids in schools and everywhere.  This new well-funded startup, based in Iowa City, and built upon Department of Defense technology exclusively licensed from the University of Iowa, is seeking an individual to play an important role in the company as Technical Project Manager (TPM).  

Job Summary 

The TPM will provide overall technical direction and guidance for the company’s product that is focused on school safety, artificial intelligence (AI) software development, deployment of the product through cloud-based solutions, and packaging of the products to be delivered to schools, businesses, and large venues. 

The TPM will be responsible for three main technical areas, overseeing company employees and sub-contractors to develop, publish, maintain, and support the company’s products:

-       AI development and testing:  Set the specifications and requirements for the development of the AI component of the products. 

-       IT: Set the specifications and requirements for the development of software, cloud hosting, wrapper software, notification options, etc. 

-       Hardware: Set the specifications and requirements for the selection of the correct hardware, minimum requirements, and/or hardware integration with company products. 

In the role of TPM the successful candidate will interact with the Board, CEO, and other staff on all aspects executing projects.

Job Responsibilities 

·         Develop budgets, requirements statements, and schedules for all technical projects. Closely track and be responsible for ensuring that projects are delivered within technical specifications, scope, schedule and budget.

·         Develop procedures to ensure that quality requirements and customer issues are addressed.

·         Review engineering specifications and provide requirements analysis to company leadership, customer, vendors, and other personnel.

·         Review internal quotes and provide recommendations on best value

·         Provide programmatic guidance and direction for employees and sub-contractors. Coordinate scheduling of resources and prioritization activities.

·         Conduct regular project meetings with internal and external constituents to obtain status, address issues to ensure successful delivery of projects, Meet with company leadership periodically to provide updates on project progress

·         Coordinate design, development, production, and outsourced teams

 

Basic Qualifications and Education 

·         BS in a technical field (engineering, computer science, etc.)

·         Some experience in project management (at least 2 years)

·         Ability to write technical reports, develop scope, statement of work, schedules, project plans and analyze financial reports.

·         Ability to manage multiple technical projects.

·         Strong ability to communicate 

Preferred qualifications

·         (optional) Ability to assist in area of the software development life cycle such as requirements analysis, design, and/or testing may be required 

·         (optional) Four or more years in project management lead role with at least two years (2) of overall technical experience in a managerial role

·         (optional) Complete understanding of software development life cycle. Waterfall and Agile are the preferred methodology for projects.
