Position Summary and Responsibilities – Senior Application Developer
Provide technical leadership, direction, and technical support for the development, configuration and ongoing maintenance of revenue cycle tools and systems.
  • Collaborate with application owners to identify critical functional requirements for new or revised applications.
  • Recommend technical design and procedures for new or revised applications.
  • Configure and customize applications.
  • May write program code or scripts
  • Review the application build for efficiency, completeness and correctness.
  • Perform unit and integrated testing,
  • Develop and maintain testing scripts for execution during special updates and system upgrade cycles. 
  • Review and analyze system problems to identify solutions and/or make appropriate referrals.
  • Carry a pager and provide after-hours support as required and requested.
  • Develop and maintain detailed project plans associated with system development, deployment, and ongoing support.
  • Develop and maintain documentation to ensure recovery capability, as well as satisfactory and stable performance of the platform(s) and all applications and processes.
  • Document system procedure and guidelines for users, as well as programs and program modifications. 
  • May train users one-on-one or in small group sessions. 
  • Develop and maintain downtime workflows and procedures
  • Provides direction, assignments, feedback, coaching, and counseling to junior staff to assure outcomes are achieved.
Position Summary and Responsibilities – Application Developer
To design and/or modify components of complex revenue cycle tools and systems.
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts to define functional/technical requirements for new or revised applications. 
  • Research system solutions.
  • Create functional/technical specifications for system build.
  • Configure and customize applications.
  • Review the application build for efficiency, completeness and correctness.
  • Perform unit and integrated testing of assigned application workflows.
  • Troubleshoot/debug and identify malfunctioning systems. Implement fixes.
  • Develop and maintain testing scripts for execution during special updates and system upgrade cycles. 
  • Resolve complex system problems through participation in on-call rotations.
  • Document system design and build.
  • Create work plans for assigned projects
  • Monitor and report progress of work plans.
  • Evaluate system upgrades to identify new functionality 
  • Demonstrate features to the user community and assess applicability,
    impact and value
  • Optimize workflows with new/modified functionality. 
  • May train/mentor users one-on-one or in small group sessions on system functionality and/or changes.

Successful candidates will be subject to a criminal background and credential check.
Education Required
Bachelor’s in a related field or an equivalent combination of education and related application development/support experience.  
Experience Requirements
  • Experience in the development and/or support of applications used by non-technical customers to support and enhance business processes, 
  • Typically 3-5 years for Application Developer
  • typically 5-7 years for Senior Developers in leadership roles including experience with programming tools and a comprehensive understanding of database technologies (e.g., Caché, SQL Server)
  • Experience working with end-users to define system requirements and understand business needs.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with technical and non-technical staff.
  • Ability to wear a pager and provide some 24x7 on-call support.
  • Demonstrated job-related experience with and/or commitment to diversity in the work/academic environment.
Highly Desired Qualifications
  • Epic Professional Billing, Hospital Billing, Claims or HIM certification is highly desirable.
Desired Qualifications
  • Familiarity with health care revenue cycle practices.
  • Experience with hospital/physician billing systems or physician office management systems.  
  • Experience with Perl or similar scripting languages
