Position Summary and Responsibilities – Senior Application Developer:
Responsible for the design and/or modification of complex hospital patient access application systems, and providing technical leadership, direction, and technical support for those systems. Primary duties include workflow analysis, optimization, application build, testing and implementation.  Other responsibilities include monitoring production issues, testing special updates, and system documentation.
  • Collaborate with application owners to identify critical functional requirements for new or revised applications.
  • Recommend technical design and procedures for new or revised applications.
  • May write program code or scripts
  • Configure and customize applications.
  • Review the application build for efficiency, completeness and correctness.
  • Perform unit and integrated testing of assigned application workflows.
  • Develop and maintain testing scripts for execution during special updates and system upgrade cycles. 
  • Review and analyze system problems to identify solutions and/or make appropriate referrals.
  • Carry a pager and provide after-hours support as required and requested.
  • Resolve complex system problems through participation in on-call rotations.
  • Develop and maintain detailed project plans associated with system development, deployment, and ongoing support.
  • Develop and maintain documentation to ensure recovery capability, as well as satisfactory and stable performance of the platform(s) and all applications and processes.
  • Document system procedure and guidelines for users, as well as programs and program modifications. 
  • May train users one-on-one or in small group sessions. 
  • Demonstrate features to the user community and assess applicability, impact and value.
  • Develop and maintain downtime workflows and procedures
  • Provides direction, assignments, feedback, coaching, and counseling to junior staff to assure outcomes are achieved.

  • Research system solutions.
  • Create functional/technical specifications for system build.
  • Configure and customize applications.
  • Review the application build for efficiency, completeness and correctness.
  • Perform unit and integrated testing of assigned application workflows.
  • Develop and maintain testing scripts for execution during special updates and system upgrade cycles. 
  • Troubleshoot/debug and identify malfunctioning systems. Implement fixes.
  • Resolve complex system problems through participation in on-call rotations.
  • Document system design and build.
  • Create work plans for assigned projects.
  • Monitor and report progress of work plans.
  • Evaluate system upgrades to identify new functionality. 
  • Demonstrate features to the user community and assess applicability, impact and value.
  • Optimize workflows with new/modified functionality. 
  • May train/mentor users one-on-one or in small group sessions on system functionality and/or changes.

Successful candidates will be subject to a criminal background and credential check.
Education Required
Bachelor’s in a related field or an equivalent combination of education and related application development/support experience.  
Experience Requirements
  • Experience in the development and/or support of applications used by non-technical customers to support and enhance business processes,
    • Typically 3-5 years for Applications Developer
    • Typically 5-7 years for Senior Developers in leadership roles including experience with programming tools and a comprehensive understanding of database technologies.
·Experience working with end-users to define system requirements and understand business needs.
·Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with technical and non-technical staff.
·Demonstrated knowledge of and experience with basic project management.
·Demonstrated job-related experience with and/or commitment to diversity in the work/academic environment.
·Ability to wear a pager and provide some 24x7 on-call support.
Highly Desired Qualifications
·Epic certification(s) in Cadence, Referrals, Prelude, Real-Time Eligibility (RTE), or Grand Central (ADT).
Desired Qualifications
·Experience supporting an EHR in a rural ambulatory or hospital setting.
·Familiarity with health care revenue cycle practices.
·Demonstrated knowledge of and experience with hospital/physician Admission Discharge Transfer (ADT), Scheduling, or Registration systems.
·Experience collaborating with technical and non-technical staff on system implementation projects.
·Proven ability to write application test scripts.
·Experience contributing to the support, configuration and development of at least one Epic-specific healthcare enterprise application.
