This Professional & Scientific position will be filled as an Application Developer (PIA2) and is not eligible for University sponsorship for employment authorization.
Position Summary:
Design and/or modify components of complex clinical application systems.  Primary duties include workflow analysis, optimization, application build, testing and implementation.  Other responsibilities include monitoring production issues, testing special updates, and system documentation. The ideal candidate will have experience as the primary contact for the support, configuration and development of at least one enterprise application; experience working with end-users to define system requirements and understand business needs; ability to write technical specifications for complex integrated systems; and basic project management skills.  All positions require use of a pager and providing some 24 x 7 on-call support.  This position will work in partnership with the Perioperative Division and Health Care Information Systems.
Position Responsibilities: 
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts to analyze workflows and develop application design.
  • Research system solutions.
  • Create functional/technical specifications for system build.
  • Configure and customize applications.
  • Review the application build for efficiency, completeness and correctness.
  • Perform unit and integrated testing of assigned application workflows.
  • Troubleshoot/debug and identify malfunctioning systems. Implement fixes.
  • Develop and maintain testing scripts for execution during special update and system upgrade cycles. 
  • Resolve complex system problems through participation in on-call rotations.
  • Document system design and build.
  • Create work plans for assigned projects
  • Monitor and report progress of work plans.
  • Evaluate system upgrades to identify new functionality 
  • Demonstrate features to the user community and assess applicability,
    impact and value
  • Optimize workflows with new/modified functionality in compliance with the Epic Good Maintenance Program
  • Obtain and maintain Epic certification(s)
  • Complete ITIL Foundations training  and adhere to use requirements 
  • Understand and adhere to Change Management policies and procedures
  • Understand and adhere to IT Security policies and procedures
  • Travel to customer sites for sustained periods of time to support application implementation, upgrade, and/or optimization

Education Required
Bachelor’s in Computer Science or MIS or an equivalent combination of education and related application development/support experience.
Experience Requirements
  • Some current relevant experience, typically 3-5 years, in the development and/or support of applications used by non- technical customers to support and enhance business processes. 
  • Experience contributing to an integrated information system implementation cycle though areas such as design, workflow analysis, build, training, implementation, testing and support 
  • Demonstrated experience working with end-users to define system requirements, understand business needs and convert business requirements into functional/technical specifications for complex integrated systems build 
  • Demonstrated ability using programming languages and tools for customizing vendor application software 
  • Experience working with vendors to analyze system and integration requirements
  • Experience communicating technical information effectively to technical and non-technical staff at the verbal, written and presentation levels 
  • Demonstrated job-related experience and/or commitment to diversity in the work/academic environment  
Desirable Qualifications
  • Experience supporting an EMR in a perioperative and procedural, ambulatory or hospital setting 
  • Experience with any of the following:  ambulatory or inpatient nursing, physician documentation or procedural and surgical services 
  • Experience working with inventory management systems or Perioperative operational business.
  • Epic certification related but not limited to the following:  Epic Optime, Epic Procedure Orders, EpicCare Ambulatory, EpicCare Inpatient, Epic Reporting Workbench
  • Experience collaborating with technical and non-technical staff on system implementation projects 
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and experience with basic project management 
  • Proven ability to write application test scripts 
  • Experience working with HL7 interfaces, Supply Management systems, Instrument management systems
