Position Summary:
To design, develop, and test databases for radiological studies for the Advanced Pulmonary Physiomic Imaging Laboratory (APPIL).Designing and developing database applications, manuals, questionnaires, and data collection forms; coordinate with various sites that are a part of the lab’s multi-center studies to ensure proper communication and completion of deadlines; conducting statistical analyses of data collected; assisting with preparation of publications and presentations; participating in quality control efforts and maintaining confidentiality of data collected.

Position Responsibilities:
  • Design, develop, test and maintain software that aids in the transmission of large medical image data sets from remote sites and performs quality control to assure images were acquired appropriately.  
  • Conduct statistical analysis of study data.
  • Develops work plan and time schedules for computing projects including outlining phases and computing equipment requirements. Monitors and reports progress and adjusts schedules as needed to assure coordination with other aspects of associated projects.
  • Consult with users to define logical and physical database for limited scope solutions.
  • Perform basic and complex procedures and techniques as outlined above, assure fidelity to database procedures, and propose modifications as needed.
  • Create and configure unit's databases for limited scope projects within existing environments.
  • Provide base-level database administration support including backup/recovery, security and performance monitoring.
  • Provide operation support.
  • Coordinate and lead data management for multi-center studies.

Education Required
  • Requires the academic knowledge of a discipline plus the ability to translate, adapt, and apply the knowledge that is generally associated with a Bachelor’s degree, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience Requirements
  • Two to three years’ relevant experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to work well within a team.
  • Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Extensive experience with large scale database development, maintenance and utilization including relational database architecture, design, performance turning, and query optimization, writing stored procedures using PL/plSQL, using various tools for database backup and recovery.
  • Extensive experience with writing web applications using modern web technologies.
  • Extensive experience programming in the .NET framework, in with particular C#.
  • Working knowledge of scripting languages including Perl, Python and bash in Linux environment.
  • Understanding of basic computer hardware and software engineering tools such as compilers, project builders, and version control systems.

Desirable Qualifications
  • Demonstrated ability to prepare reports, charts and other documents of a technical and scientific nature.
  • Experience with ASP.NET Core and Entity Framework Core.
  • Experience with statistical programs such as R, SAS.
  • Working knowledge writing Java GUI applications.
  • A background in radiological research as well as working understanding of medical CT and MR imaging methodology and medical image storage and transfer protocols, specifically the DICOM transfer protocol.
