Lead Database Administrator

Job Information:

This position will participate in project planning and manage the migration of data into the new Epic Cabooble data warehouse model. Collaborates with development staff, customers and other DBA’s to translate project goals into database models.  Review of business value with stakeholders. Contribute to the design of a very large-scale data warehouse environment including divisions across servers, databases and schema structures. Serves as an expert consultant for both applications and other systems support staff on questions and problems with database design, usage, tuning and troubleshooting. Installs, administers, and fine-tunes database engine.  Provisioning database system resources. Continual monitoring and alert follow-up. Promote data structures, ETL processes and data across development, test and production environments.  Involvement in root cause analysis of adverse performance events and subsequent resolution by utilizing tracing, query and database optimization.

Participate in discussions of security, backup and recovery, storage design, etc. Move database objects in and out of replication. Troubleshoot performance issues with user queries, standard reports and ETL processes. Act as an educational resource to the end-user community, either one-on-one or delivering hands-on tutorials to many individuals.  Participate in projects as assigned, and work with team members across the organization to deliver project goals. Participate in interviews with potential employees. Participate in or conduct data warehouse user group meetings. Suggest technical innovations that may offer performance and/or data access improvements over the current model.  Prepares reports for management on database growth and performance. Provides technical information, guidance and training to junior staff members, as assigned.

Position Requirements: 
Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Management Information Science (MIS), or related field, and a minimum of five years progressive experience working directly with relational database systems using SQL and SQL procedural language; or an equivalent combination of education and related experience (e.g., Master’s Degree in Computer Science, Management Information Science (MIS), or related field, and a minimum of two years progressive experience working directly with relational database systems using SQL and SQL procedural language).

Qualifying experience must include:
  1. Demonstrated knowledge or experience with ability to interpret query execution plans in order to identify opportunities for improved performance in a very high-volume database environment
  2. Demonstrated knowledge or experience with interpreting, modifying and creating complex custom database stored procedures and functions.
  3. Demonstrated extensive knowledge with Microsoft SQL Server.
  4. Demonstrated experience working directly with data consumers and subject matter experts to effectively translate analytic requirements into technical database design specifications.
  5. Demonstrated advanced problem-solving abilities.
  6. Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, and strong interpersonal skills.
