This position supports Apache, division of Motion Industries and is responsible for timely selecting freight carriers within guidelines, scheduling shipments, preparing domestic and international freight paperwork, completing system entries, and safely receiving and shipping products in a team environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Prepare BOL/freight paperwork with needed information including correct billing (e.g., prepaid, prepaid and add, collect, COD).
  • Fill out all paperwork for international shipments – NAFTA – Customs invoices.
  • Prepare shipments and secure appropriate labels and lists.
  • Select freight carriers using approved company processes and schedule shipments.
  • Obtain freight quotes for loads.
  • Resolve freight issues by investigating, gathering information from carriers, and keeping Sales informed.
  • Timely complete system transactions and route/file accurate records of all incoming and outgoing shipments.
  • Organize, clean and maintain Shipping & Receiving area.
  • Count, weigh or measure items incoming and outgoing shipments to verify information against BOL, invoices, order and packing lists.
  • Examine incoming shipments, reject damaged goods, record shortages and correspond with internal department(s) regarding damages and shortages.
  • Ensure received product is clearly labeled on packaging prior to stocking.
  • Distribute received goods to waiting internal customers.
  • Determine disposition of unclear receipts.
  • Assist in all areas of Shipping & Receiving including packaging and processing small parcels, loading trucks, material handling, etc.
  • Ensure Company security and dock policies are followed including the checking in of visitors.
  • Requisition supplies for department, as needed.
  • Process advance shipping notices, as needed.
  • Attend work regularly and predictably and uphold Company values in all work aspects.

Education and/or Experience

Possess the equivalent of a high school diploma and at least 2 years of related experience and/or training to effectively utilize computer systems and software, follow government regulations in preparing forms, and calculate volume, percentages and cost comparisons Experience with freight and small parcel carriers and using an ERP system is preferred.

 

Skills and Abilities

Ability to read, analyze and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to write reports and correspondence. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra. Ability to interact well with others and speak effectively. Willingness to ask questions and communicate professionally with supervisors and coworkers. Must be able to become certified to drive a forklift and ship hazardous materials through small parcel carriers.

 

Working Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee generally works in a fast-paced environment and frequently near moving mechanical parts and occasionally exposed to fumes. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate. The production area is often cold in the winter and hot in the summer months.

 

Physical Demands

Must be able to lift heavy packages frequently up to 35 lbs and occasionally lift or move up to 70 lbs. Standing or walking most of the day. Bending over and kneeling or climbing stairs. Pushing and pulling product. Requires close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. Frequently required to walk and use hands to handle or feel objects, tools or controls. Required to reach with hands and arms and climb or balance and talk or hear.

Job Benefits:

Employees are immediately eligible for quarterly and annual bonus’ up to $3,600/year in addition to a competitive benefits package, including medical, dental, and vision, PTO, and a 401(k) Savings Plan after 60 days of employment. We are currently offering a retention bonus in the amount of $1,250 that will be paid to new employees in two increments. 1st payment ($250) after the 180th day (six months) of continuous employment; 2nd payment ($1,000) after the 365th day of continuous employment.
