The City of Washington is seeking a full-time vehicle mechanic in its Maintenance & Construction Department:

Vehicle Mechanic 2.  Regular full-time position primarily responsible for maintenance of vehicles, light equipment and heavy equipment, including associated documentation of repairs for vehicle and equipment performance.  Starting salary is $27.14/hour plus excellent benefits including health insurance and IPERS retirement.  Applications accepted until position is filled, first review is December 15, 2023. 

 Under the supervision of the Maintenance and Construction Superintendent, the Vehicle Mechanic 2 is a non-exempt position which performs skilled mechanic work on the City’s equipment. The position also includes management of a supplementary parts inventory and maintenance of immediate work area.  Work involves the safe and efficient performance of manual tasks of more than ordinary difficulty requiring skills or special knowledge acquired through schooling and/or past experience. Backs up the Assistant Superintendent and Cemetery as needed in operation and maintenance of the City’s cemeteries.

 High school diploma or GED required, with 5-10 years of experience in the operation and maintenance of trucks, construction equipment and use of tools.
