Night Cook / Room Service Specialist, Food & Nutritional Services

This position supports Mercy's philosophy of patient centered care by serving fresh, nutritious food in a caring manner to patients, family and staff. Responsible for the preparation and service of fresh and flavorful foods for patients, families, employees, volunteers and physicians in an attractive and sanitary manner. Properly cleans and sanitizes work area. Maintains a safe work environment and adheres to department as well as regulatory guidelines.
 
Job Duties
  • Coordinates patient, staff and visitor meal requests
  • Takes orders, prepares food as ordered by their diet and food preferences and trays and delivers meals to the nurses station.
  • Takes orders, uses proper cash handling procedures and prepares food for pickup.
  • Completes assigned prep work.
  • Demonstrates excellent customer service relationships with external and internal customers.
  • Heavy usage with CBORD program and cash register functions.
  • Prepares food in a timely manner.
  • Prepares tasty food that is also visually appealing.
  • Handles cash and payment processing.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Must have knowledge of nutrition and special diets.
  • Must be able to make appropriate decisions utilizing dietary guidelines for Patient's diet orders.
  • Basic proficiency in operation of computer, calculator, fax machine, filing systems, telephone system, POS System and medical terminology.
  • Demonstates the ability to follow standardized recipes and other information to complete preparation of menu items on a timely basis.
  • Use of critical thinking to make decisions quickly and appropriately in situations with regard to food safety, quality products, diet compliance and proper cash handling.

Professional Experience
  • One or more years of health care experience strongly preferred.
Education
  • High school diploma preferred.
  • Culinary Arts Degree, Certified Dietary Manager course or 90 hour Food Service Supervisor course preferred.
  • Completion of Mercy Medical Center Nutrition course and ServeSafe within six months of hire required.
Licensure, Certification, Registration
  • Active ServSafe certification from the National Restaurant Association Education Foundation to be obtained within 1 year of hire.

Location: Mercy Medical Center - Cedar Rapids · Food & Nutritional Services
Schedule: Full Time, Evening/Night, every other weekend off
