About the role:

We currently have an opening for an Administrative Assistant in the laboratory of Dr. Michael Welsh at Pappajohn Biomedical Institute, at the University of Iowa in Iowa City.  The Welsh Lab is interested in understanding the biology of cystic fibrosis (CF) and developing new treatments for the lethal genetic disease.  The team also explores the cellular and molecular bases of Parkinson's disease and other neurodegenerative diseases and focuses on novel therapeutic approaches.  More information about the lab can be found on their website: https://medicine.uiowa.edu/pbi/labs/welsh

This role is an integral part of the lab and will be responsible for supporting the Investigator with calendaring, travel, and correspondence. What you’ll do:

  • Coordinate Investigator’s communications including email and phone
  • Maintain Investigator’s calendar, including scheduling and coordinating appointments, meetings, committee activities, conferences, and special events.
  • Coordinate Investigator’s travel arrangements, acting as liaison with event hosts, and complete travel reimbursement processes.
  • Compose and review, proofread and edit, research and compile written materials (correspondence, documents, and/or special reports).
  • Assist with managing timeline and deliverables for grants and other time-sensitive activities
  • Order office supplies and assist with inventory management as needed
  • Routinely update Investigator’s CV (publications, lectures, awards).
  • Assist with liaising between the lab and various administrative offices
  • Perform miscellaneous secretarial duties as required

What you bring: Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree and 2-3 years related experience, or the equivalent combination of education and work experience
  • Strong computer skills using standard office equipment. Must be very familiar with the Apple (Mac OS) system. Proficiency required in Microsoft Word and PowerPoint, as well as Adobe Acrobat..
  • Excellent communication, organizational, recordkeeping and interpersonal skills
  • Must be able to work independently as well as part of a team

 

Physical Requirements:

Remaining in a normal seated or standing position for extended periods of time; reaching and grasping by extending hand(s) or arm(s); dexterity to manipulate objects with fingers, for example using a keyboard; communication skills using the spoken word; ability to see and hear within normal parameters; ability to move about workspace. The position requires mobility, including the ability to move materials weighing up to several pounds (such as a laptop computer or tablet).

Compensation Range

  • $47,600.00 (minimum)
  • $59,439.00 (midpoint)
  • $77,300.00 (maximum)

Pay Type: Annual
