SUMMARY

R&D Intern positions are under the close supervision of an R&D Scientist. The position is responsible for working with Cosmetic R&D Scientists to perform basic laboratory research and routine laboratory activities.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assists in the execution of test protocols and procedures.
  • Assists in stability, safety, claims and micro challenge testing.
  • Sets up and operates lab equipment and records measurements with limited supervision.
  • Organizes, maintains and presents accurate data.
  • Assists in the development and continuous improvement of lab procedures.
  • Assists in concept generation, design, development and evaluation of new products, materials and technologies.
  • Assists in scale-ups when taking a new formulation from bench to manufacturing.
  • Utilizes and follows relevant regulations and development standards.
  • Demonstrates creativity and resourcefulness to assist in problem solving issues that arise during the development or launch process.
  • Provides documentation and estimated costs for new formulas and materials.
  • Plans, executes and provides results of formula panel evaluations.
  • Reviews labeling for accuracy.
  • Maintains product development laboratory utilizing good laboratory practices.
  • Performs general clerical duties such as filing, mailing samples and organizing.
  • Strives to reduce waste, recycle products whenever possible, and re-use resources when practical.
  • Works safely at all times, follows safety rules and policies and participates in scheduled training.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Exhibits a curiosity and desire to learn by initiating work and asking questions.

 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's degree program majoring in an appropriate scientific field.

 

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Good problem solving, decision making skills and attention to detail. Displays a sense of urgency and initiative with creativity and flexibility.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple projects and work independently.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages and volume.
  • Ability to use a computer to create spreadsheets, charts and run reports.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to handle, or feel as well as taste and smell.  The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, and sit; and view computer monitors or video displays. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear.  The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and color vision.
