The University of Iowa Department of Pathology is seeking an Instructional Services Specialist to provide instructional services and support to faculty, staff, and students by designing, developing, selecting, adapting, presenting, or maintaining instructional/informational materials and/or facilities (e.g., classrooms, labs, studios, centers, workshops, technology programs) for the purpose of teaching and learning, Provide oversight of instruction to students to enhance their skills in key areas.Continuously interact with faculty and staff in Pathology and other academic departments concerning teaching activities. Perform operational and administrative tasks associated with the provision of instructional services throughout the department. This position will be primarily 1st shift, Monday – Friday.

Education Required
  • Bachelor’s degree in a chemical, biological, clinical laboratory science, or medical technology program from an accredited institution.
  • Certification as a Medical Lab Scientist (MLS) from American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or certification as a Medical Technologist (MT) from Health Education and Welfare (HEW).

Experience Requirements
  • Minimum of 1 year recent clinical laboratory experience
  • Experience in providing technical training (one-on-one, small group, formal presentations)
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office and other computer applications
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with individuals and groups, as well as excellent organizational skills

Desirable Qualifications
  • Experience working with ICON or similar course management system is highly desirable
  • Experience developing curriculum and educational resources is desirable
  • Database management experience is desirable
  • Experience coordinating training initiatives is desirable
  • Experience with social media is desirable
