Position Summary: 
Participate in the design, execution, and control of Tissue Core Repository at the University of Iowa. The Tissue Core is designed to collect, process/store and distribute human tissue and derivatives from cancer and non-cancer surgical tissue specimens. Primarily responsible for effectively and efficiently obtaining patient consent and procuring tissue from the gross room in a timely manner. Assist with appropriate distribution to individual investigators and users. Facilitate tissue collections from surgical pathology for partner repositories. Performs essential data entry functions and database operations.

Job Relationships: 
Primary supervision from Faculty Director of Tissue Core Repository. Works closely with all other personnel in the Tissue Core Repository along with other laboratory and health care personnel within the institution. Interacts directly with patients. Shares tasks with other personnel in Tissue Core Repository for the most efficient use of personnel and time. Represents the University of Iowa CCOM in a professional manner.

Position Qualifications:

Education Required: 
  • A Master's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required.

Experience Requirements: 
  • 3-5 years of progressively responsible experience in the conduct of natural or health science research. 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. 
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively and efficiently in a team environment. 
  • Must be proficient in computer software applications.

Highly Desired Qualifications: 
  • Experience and expertise in histotechnology. 
  • Prior experience and/or exposure to surgical pathology and gross pathology operations. 
  • Working knowledge of human anatomy and pathology. 
  • Education or experience with database management. 
  • Experience with molecular/genetic techniques including RNA/DNA isolation. 
  • Experience writing or implementing IRB protocols. 
  • Experience hiring and managing personnel including student staff. 
  • Experience with Electronic Medical Record software (EPIC).
