The University of Iowa Department of Neurology is seeking a Research Specialist in the laboratory of George Richerson, MD, PhD.  The Richerson lab is interested in basic mechanisms of epilepsy and breathing, and especially in how seizures cause respiratory arrest.  The lab employs a wide range of electrophysiological, anatomical, molecular, physiological, optogenetic, seizure induction, and surgical techniques in mouse models.  Responsibilities of this position will include designing experiments, developing protocols for the lab, running experiments, stereotactic surgery, genotyping, animal husbandry, data acquisition, data analysis, preparing figures and writing papers.  Provide expert assistance with laboratory maintenance including the development of animal protocols, ordering supplies, and the maintenance of stocks of reagents. Previous laboratory experience, especially with laboratory animals including genotyping and surgery, is highly desirable.
