Microbiology Data Analyst

JMI Laboratories is seeking a Microbiology Data Analyst for our growing team. Our business performs custom microbiology testing on bacterial and fungal samples obtained from around the world to help our clients measure the effectiveness of antibacterial and antifungal drugs against a representative worldwide sampling.

In business since 2000, we have millions of test results in our database and that number grows daily. This position will be responsible for delivering on data analysis requests from our scientific staff, using the appropriate combination of our proprietary analysis apps and other available statistical and data manipulation tools as required, and verifying the quality of that output.

Our growing data set revolves around susceptibility testing of antibiotics and antifungals, as well as genetic and molecular characterization of samples that warrant further study. You’ll be helping our scientific directors analyze these phenotypic and genotypic results in a clear and cohesive fashion.
We are seeking someone with both microbiology knowledge as well as good statistical and data analysis experience. The successful applicant will be able to demonstrate proficiency with SQL as well as one or more of Python, Ruby, R, or similar tools.

The work we do is integral to the development of new antibacterial and antifungal drugs by our clients to improve the health of patients around the world. At the end of each day you will know that you are helping advance global public health.

•Master’s degree in bioinformatics / biostatistics
•Demonstrated knowledge of biology and genetics
•Demonstrated knowledge of microbiology is desirable
•Experience analyzing test result data sets
•Proficiency in SQL and one or more of Python, Ruby, R, SAS, SPSS
•Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications
•Excellent written and verbal communication skills
•Ability to prioritize multiple tasks
•Ability to mentor other team members
•Be both a great team player and able to produce deliverables on your own


•Attend project kick off meetings to determine data analysis requirements and test plan requirements
•Design and execute test plans to ensure laboratory information management systems meet each project's requirements
•Launch new projects and populate with samples to be tested
•Perform required analysis for each project and interact directly with scientific staff
•Review data analysis and authored reports and scientific publications for consistency and quality
