Position Description

Position:  Group Tour & Education Coordinator

Type:  Hourly, average 10 hours per week

Reports To:   Program Manager




The Group Tour Coordinator’s primary role is to promote The History Center’s variety of programs and exhibits to groups and schools.  Ultimately, this person will coordinate the visits of these groups.



  • Identify groups, schools, etc. to be contacted.
  • Research and select ideal marketing vehicles to reach the groups, school leaders, etc.
  • Use available marketing funds to get the word to prospective visiting groups.
  • Use available resources to customize marketing materials based on audience to be reached.
  • Personally reach out to prospective tour groups to present details and answer questions.
  • Confirm calendar of visits with The History Center staff.
  • Welcome groups, be on site during tours, field trips, etc.  Assist with presentations as necessary.
  • Create and distribute post-visit surveys to group leaders, individuals.
  • Follow up with groups after visit to re-book visits.
  • Assist with rentals and other events.
  • Attend weekly staff meetings when requested.
  • Other duties as assigned.



Must be able to:

  • Work irregular/flex hours.  Some evening hours are required on an irregular basis.
  • Demonstrate punctuality.
  • Handle multiple priorities and competing calendars.
  • Communicate clearly.
  • Gently and effectively manage volunteers.
  • Follow written instructions.
  • Handle visitor concerns.
  • Handle transactions.
  • Think on one’s feet to handle any urgent issues that may arise.
