Retail Manager, Mercy Gift Shops

Full time Retail Manager, M-F daytime hours (no evenings/weekends).  Competitive pay and great benefits.  This position supports Mercy's philosophy of patient centered care by providing earned income for the support of the Mercy Auxiliary's fundraising efforts.  This is achieved by offering merchandise that is unique to Mercy, in both shop locations, providing for a warm, unique shopping experience.

  Job Specific Duties/Essential Functions:
  • Establishes and oversees the financials for both shops to include daily receipts, vendor invoices, monthly financial statements, inventory/vendor input, billing, sales entry and annual reports.
  • Hires, trains and supervises staff and volunteers in retail procedures and is responsible for review and approval of staff payroll.
  • Distributes and presents monthly, quarterly and yearly financial accounting reports to appropriate persons, including the Auxiliary Leadership team, Mercy's finance department and the Director of The Mercy Touch Experience & Volunteer Services. 
  • Coordinates internal audits (as required).
  • Attends Mercy Medical Center's monthly Management Council and Mercy Auxiliary Board and Finance meetings.
  • Communicates with the Mercy Volunteer Services regarding volunteer needs. 
  • Communicates with the Director of the Mercy Touch Experience and Volunteer Services regarding all shop concerns, shop procedures, and general shop practices.
  • Develops and implements Mercy policies, procedures and daily shop routine.
  • Attends merchandise markets as necessary for maintaining daily/seasonal buying with established budgets.
  • Coordinates and cooperates with Mercy Medical Center staff and Auxiliary regarding special events involving the stores.
  • Responsible for overall vision and retail experience of Mercy's gift shops inclusive of retail planning and design, merchandise selection, marketing, buying, pricing and display/layout.
  • Oversees the POS system.
  • Maintains appropriate inventory levels and pricing guidelines.  

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Strong clerical and organizational skills
  • Proficiency in all computer capabilities, Outlook and Mercy Medical Center sites
  • Proficiency in mathematical skills, detail work
  • Quick learner, outgoing and friendly
  • Able to accept responsibility
  • Display initiative, quality conscious cooperative attitude, and have a good sense of humor
  • Able to handle multiple tasks in a highly interruptible atmosphere
  • Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information
  • Ability to provide information in a clear, concise manner

Professional Experience– Required vs. Preferred:
  • Previous experience in retail operation/management required
  • Buying experience required
  • Accounting skills required
  • Experience in non-profit institutions preferred
  • Merchandising and store layout planning preferred

Education-Required vs. Preferred:
  • High School Graduate or equivalent required
  • College Degree preferred
