Basic Function: The primary purpose of this position is to manage the day-to-day operations of food service and catering. Plan, direct, administer, and supervise the preparation and serving of food. Provide oversight for the residence hall food service program. Serve as the executive sous chef.

Qualifications: Req: High School supplemented by course work in menu planning, quality cooking, safety and sanitation. Three years of paid experience in quality food preparation and/or hospitality experience. Must meet or be willing to earn Serve Safe certification.  Typically, 50 hour work week (10 a.m. - 7 p.m.) with the ability to work flexible hours as required including nights, weekends, and holidays.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with managerial duties of the food service operation, assumes full responsibility in the absence of the Food Service Director.
  • Assist the Director of Food Services in establishing and maintaining systems and procedures for the ordering, receiving, storing, preparing and serving of food related products, as well as menu planning and development.
  • Ensure that requirements for appropriate sanitation and safety levels are met.
  • Plan and develops new menu items and recipes.
  • Plan, assign, and supervise the work of preparing, cooking, and portioning of food.
  • Inspect food for taste, appearance, and proper temperature control.
  • Plan, assist, and prepare gourmet foods for special events and caterings.
  • Maintain inventory control of foods and supplies in the kitchen. Orders food and supplies for the Residence Halls.
  • Supervise the cleaning of the kitchen.
  • Perform in a manner which strengthens the coordination and cooperation of all organizational components of the College, including opportunities for student recruitment.
