Qualifications
  • High school graduate or G.E.D. preferred. 
  • All applicants must be at least 16 years of age.
  • Applicant must possess ability to read, write, and follow written and oral instructions in English. 
  • One to two years of experience as a cook preferred, on the job training provided. 
 
General Summary
Prepares nutritional and appealing meals. Assists with general areas of work assigned for the day. 
 
Essential Functions
  1. Ability to handle and prepare food
  2. Ability to prepare food which is appetizing in appearance.
  3. Ability to follow oral directions.
  4. Ability to follow written directions.
  5. Ability to follow written menus and recipes. 
  6. Ability to understand be able to prepare therapeutic diets. 
  7. Ability to be responsible for avoiding food waste.
  8. Ability to assume responsibility for meeting meal schedules. 
  9. Ability to be responsible for care of food service equipment.
  10. Ability to work cooperatively with food service staff and other departments. 
  11. Ability to attend in-service training programs for food service employees. 
  12. Ability to comply with established infection control and universal precautions. 
  13. Ability to observe all facility safety policies and procedures including working responsibly to ensure personal safety. 
  14. Ability to come to work as scheduled and consistently demonstrate dependability and punctuality.
  15. Ability to accept assigned duties in a cooperative manner.
  16. Ability to assume accountability for data contained in the employees’ personnel handbook.
  17. Ability to perform other related duties as directed by the Food Service Supervisor. 
  18. Ability to serve meals following state and federal guidelines and meeting Healthcare of Iowa standards. 
  19. Ability to clean and sanitize kitchen area, equipment, and supplies according to schedules, routines, and standards, established by Healthcare of Iowa and the Food Service’s Supervisor.
  20. Ability to comprehend and follow all OSHA, state, and federal regulations and monitor facility compliance on an ongoing basis. 
  21. Ability to follow Resident’s Rights policies at all times. 
  22. The physical activities of this position involve: crouching, grasping, kneeling, lifting, pulling, pushing, reaching, repetitive movement, standing, and stooping. 
  23. An individual in this position will be required to carry or lift weights in the range of 35-50 pounds and more with assistance. 
  24. The sensory and communicative activities essential to the performance of this position include: feeling, hearing, seeing, smelling, speaking, tasting, reading and writing. 
  25. An individual in the position may be exposed to: inside environmental conditions and physical, chemical, and respiratory hazards.
