The Encore Café Service Coordinator plans, organizes, directs and coordinates the Congregate Senior Meal Site Program and its volunteers in Marion, Iowa at Lowe Park (Wednesday and Thursday) and Marion Public Library (Monday and Friday) with St. Marks (Tuesday) in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Implement software for client records at all HAAA congregate and home delivered meal locations with the addition of other service contractors when software fully functional. Cross-train and provide technical assistance to providers an trouble shoot software issues and work with internal staff and software leads as appropriate.

  • Regular and consistent attendance at work.
  • Obtain list of reservations from the Marion Public Library reservation system and on-site registration sheets and contact food vendor by 3:00 P.M. the day before service.
  • Maintain a high-level of customer service by engaging with Café attendees and assisting Café attendees as necessary.
  • Prepares reports as directed based contracts, grants and other report deadlines.
  • Utilize standard office equipment to input client information and lead implementation of software SAMSCAN.
  • Complete food employee/volunteer illness reporting form annually or as required by food code.
  • Complies with and maintains safety and sanitary procedures.
  • Attends and participates in staff trainings, staff meetings and community and public meetings.
  • Assist attendees with completing Consumer Intake Form.
  • Ensure proper sanitation practices are being met.
  • Follow all fiscal procedures for handling and depositing of voluntary contributions.
  • Oversee and coordinate volunteers as needed.
  • Ensure proper set-up of dining site daily.
  • Implement new software at all congregate meal sites and home delivered meal sites within the HAAA region including all other services providers eventually.
  • Work with software leads including, AAA lead for any issues.
  • Work with contract managers with any software needs as it relates to providers.
  • Provide onsite visits and technical assistance regularly to providers with software.
  • Provide each site with recommendations for software upgrades and purchasing as necessary.
  • Communicate with the Regional Nutrition Coordinator, any issues, concerns, suggestions to ensure a well-functioning dining site.
  • Follow all policies and procedures with the Heritage Area Agency on Aging/Kirkwood Community College.
  • Perform other related work duties as assigned.

  • Be able to effectively utilize technology and computers including, but not limited to, office equipment, word processing, spreadsheets, and database software, scanners and other equipment.

Physical Requirements
The physical activities required for this position involve:
  • Standing over ½ of the time.
  • Walking over ½ of the time.
  • Reaching with hands and arms up to 2/3 of the time.
  • Talking or hearing 2/3 of the time.
  • This position requires lifting:
    • Up to 25 pounds under 1/2 of the time.
  • Up to 50 pounds less than 1/4 of the time.


  • Associates Degree in human services or computer science and a minimum of two years in food service and/or experience with older adults and persons with disabilities.
  • Obtain certified food protection certification; such as ServSafe
  • Must have valid driver's license for required travel.
  • Must be willing to be certified in dependent adult abuse upon hire, if not already certified upon application.

  • Those with principles of nutrition and food service management, basic record keeping, report running and basic accounting practices preferred and software and computer science skills a must.
