Purchasing Manager

Kent Corporation is seeking a Purchasing Manager who will be responsible for purchasing and negotiating materials, equipment, supplies and services from suppliers along with being able to manage direct reports. This person will collaborate with the Purchasing team to develop, communicate, and accomplish the Company's goals and objectives. This position is located in Muscatine, Iowa and offers a complete benefits package.


  • Oversees the activities of a group of purchasing agents/buyers who contract with vendors for raw materials, supplies, equipment or services required by the company.
  •  Responsible for workforce planning to ensure the efficient operation of the function: Oversees staffing, development, performance management/evaluation, diversity, health/safety, and employee relations.
  • Encourages growth, assists in coaching/teaching and personal development of direct reports
  • Leads project teams which align to organizational goals,


  • Negotiates contract, develops corporate supply strategies and fosters supplier integration
  • Works toward long term planning and implementation
  • Past experience of toll manufacturing contracts and/or service level contracting
  • Able to handle large capital items and project purchasing
  • Leads project teams which align to organizational goals
  • Creates short term goals and objectives for department to align with long term goals
  • Encourages growth, assists in coaching/teaching and personnel development of direct reports
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders in resolving problems
  • Is self-motivated and sets own direction
  • Support and review Corporate Purchasing Policy and Procedures
  • Able to backfill for the Director when absent
  • Keep the Director fully informed of any activities and all conditions and factors which may positively or negatively affect the organization


  • Written Communications, Time Management, Business Acumen, Negotiating, Timely decision making, Motivating Others, Process Management, Problem Solving
  • Bachelor’s degree plus 8 years’ experience or minimum 15 years Purchasing related experience
  • Able to align Purchasing with strategic goals of the Corporation
  • Familiar with variety of concepts, practices, and procedures within the Purchasing realm
  • Ability to write and interpret business reports, documents, and information
  • Effective communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills
  • Complete understanding of contracts and ability to read and write terms and conditions and SOW's
  • Relies on extensive experience and judgement to plan and accomplish goals
  • Performs a variety of complex tasks
  • Wide degree of creativity and latitude is required
  • Willing and able to manage the daily functions and tasks of others
  • Capacity to assume more significant responsibilities
