Basic Job Function and Responsibilities

To be responsible for administration and coordination of all functions within the assigned clinics including at a minimum provider and patient relations, clinic performance, marketing and business development, financial and personnel management.

Job Duties/Performance Expectations

  • Leads all personnel and providers in efforts to affect the care of patients and to meet clinic goals and objectives. Assist colleagues in daily operations as needed. Ensure that clinical and support staff is properly trained and supervised to ensure the highest level of patient satisfaction. Coordinates new program development to enhance clinic performance. Recommends and implements policies and procedures as appropriate.
  • As needed, staff providers with clinical support including triaging phone calls, preparing patient for exams, obtaining histories from patients, taking patient’s height, weight, temperature and blood pressure, giving medications, injections, blood draws under physician’s supervision, assisting with collection of specimens, performing lab controls for tests to be performed, and other clinical support functions within the scope of license.
  • In collaboration with Mercy Community Relations and Marketing, identify opportunities to promote clinic services and implement marketing initiatives. Identify new business development opportunities and develop implement strategies to secure new patients and revenue for the clinic.
  • Maintains general line authority and responsibility for planning, budgeting, financial and productivity monitoring, and program implementation for the office. Coordinates the annual financial audit process.
  • Maintains knowledge of ICD-10 and CPT coding, insurance issues and claims, insurance plan analysis, crystal report writing, drug reimbursement fee schedules, system financial reports and computer upgrades. Works collaboratively with Mercy Patient Financial Services to ensure daily reconciliation of the clinic revenue cycle including at a minimum collections, co-pays, daily close, and encounters.
  • Hires, supervises and evaluates all non-contract personnel for the clinic. In collaboration with Mercy Human Resources, investigate performance and compliance issues and take appropriate corrective action.
  • Works collaboratively with Human Resources to manage provider contracts. Recommend, implement, and communicate contract changes. Ensure providers are following the terms of their contract and schedules. Work collaboratively with the provider to maximize their performance.
  • Establishes and monitors systems to ensure compliance with CLIA, OSHA, HIPAA, Medicare and other federal, state and local regulations and requirements. Serves as compliance officer for the clinic.
  • Investigates and responds to patient complaints. Establish policies or procedures or take corrective action to prevent similar future complaints.
  • Attends and participates in manager and compliance meetings. Works collaboratively with colleagues on projects, process and workflow improvements, and other initiatives; makes recommendations and assist with implementation. Prepares and presents reports as requested by work groups, supervisors and other stakeholders.
  • Maintains current knowledge in health administration by attending professional meetings, reading current literature and participating in professional organizations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

 

Minimum Requirements:

Education

  • Bachelors Degree in Health Administration or Business Administration -Preferred
  • Graduate of nursing program- Required

Experience

  • 2 years required of medical office experience - Required
  • 1 year of experience with employee supervision - Required
  • 3 years of progressive nursing experience - Required
  • Demonstrated experience analyzing financial and performance data - Required
  • Ability to analyze large quantities of data and assimilate it into understandable management reports- Required
  • Ability to make clear, concise decisions under stressful conditions - Required
  • Demonstration of leadership abilities - Required
  • Ability to work effectively with minimal supervision - Required

Certification(s), Licensure(s) & Registration(s)

  • Licensure in Iowa as a Registered Nurse - Required
  • Current Basic Life Support validation or successfully complete BLS course within 3 months of date of hire - Required
