Function of In-Patient RN: To  plan  and provide for  total patient  care  through use of nursing process in assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating patient needs. To direct and guide patient teaching,  activities  of  ancillary personnel while maintaining standards of professional nursing.  

Significant Duties (In-Patient RN):

  1. Consistently utilizes methods and knowledge to accurately assess all patient systems.
  2. Identifies appropriate nursing diagnosis to develop a plan of care that is individualized, timely, and patient centered.
  3. Implements nursing actions safely and consistently with the plan of care.
  4. Incorporates patient and family teaching into the assessment and care of each patient. Evaluates outcomes of patient care and teaching
  5. Assessment, planning, intervention, including teaching and evaluation of patient care are reflected by completed and accurate documentation.
  6. Acts as liaison between physicians, care team, the patient, and the family. Serves as patient advocate, as necessary.
  7. Demonstrates the ability to use critical thinking skills in prioritization, delegation, decision making and practicing safety.
  8. Attends all required meetings and inservices.

 Job Qualifications for In-Patient RN:
Education: Graduate  of  accredited  school of nursing. Current Iowa license (RN). BCLS, ACLS as indicated by area of responsibility. Successful completion of JCH pharmacology qualifying examination.
Experience: Experience preferred, but not required.


Function of Clinic RN:  Creates a professional office image by providing superior customer service while effectively assisting the medical providers in the care and treatment of patients, and by working cooperatively with other staff members to promote a smooth flow of work within the office. Performs assigned procedures and duties within the scope of practice as set forth by the Iowa State Board of Nursing. Regular attendance is an essential function of this position.    
Significant Duties (Clinic RN):

  1. Assists with in-office patient care: Rooms patients and takes vital signs, obtains history and nursing assessments. Assists or performs procedures as directed by the physician (i.e.; dressing changes, suture removal). Performs patient teaching. Obtains consents, communicates with other hospital departments to schedule tests and procedures. Calls pharmacies to order prescribed medications and refills. Returns call from patients, pharmacies, other physicians, etc., in a timely manner. Processes home care orders, communicating with physician(s), outside agencies and patients as needed. Accurately, completely, legibly and in a timely manner documents findings and outcomes of all above interactions in patient charts and initials each entry.
  2. Performs telephone triage according to physician-approved protocols and schedules work-in appointments for acute patients.  Calls insurance companies for pre-certification. Assists physicians with in-office patient care as requested. Accurately, completely, legibly, and in a timely manner documents findings and outcomes of all interactions in patient charts and initials each entry.    
  3. Collaborates with Central Stores to order and track medical supplies and equipment. Maintains medical supplies in treatment rooms.
  4. Performs general duties as needed or assigned: Cleans and bags treatment room instruments. Takes and receives instruments from Central Supply for sterilization as needed. Cleans rooms. Check sample medications for outdates monthly and properly disposes of outdated medications. Performs surgical infection QA bimonthly. Copies/prepares patient charts. Assists office staff as needed. 

Job Qualifications for Clinic RN:
Education: Graduate of accredited school of nursing. Current Iowa RN or LPN license. BCLS. Successful completion of JCHC pharmacology qualifying examination.              
Experience: Experience in a physician office is preferred. Computer skills preferred.
