This nurse would coordinate the care of that patient from their initial contact of ocular oncology patients for the Department of Ophthalmology through surgery and follow up. This would include obtaining and reviewing outside records, arrange necessary testing or screening with appointments, and be a liaison to referring/outside providers. Coordinate care with other discipline including radiation oncology, surgical co management, anesthesia and other disciplines as needed. Provide education to patient and family regarding plan of care, resources, and assist with identifying financial resources/SW /support services if needed. Ensure equipment and specific plaque/radiation is arranged and coordinated for specific patient for surgery. Triage and follow up calls to pateints pre and post surgery to address needs or concerns.

  • A Baccalaureate degree in Nursing
  • Associates Degree and BSN by time of appointment
  • Current license to practice nursing in Iowa
  • Reasonable (1-3 years) nursing experience
  • Demonstrated clinical expertise in eye and/or tumor
  • Ability to anticipate needs, problems and potential issues and use judgment, foresight and problem-solving skills to troubleshoot, recommend and implement solutions.
  • Demonstrate careful attention to detail and accuracy, strong organizational skills and ability to handle multiple tasks quickly and effectively, proactively establish priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills required including ability to compose communications and grammatically correct documents in a concise, logical and organized manner.
  • Proficient in computer software applications (Microsoft Office Programs)
  • Reasonable (1-3 years) eye experience
  • Reasonable (1-3 years) tumor/oncology experience
  • CON (Certified Oncology Nurse) certification
