Do you want to positively impact the environment? Our Planner/Environmental Specialist will manage the Iowa Waste Exchange (IWE) program for Benton, Iowa, Linn, Johnson and Jones counties. This innovative program helps find alternative uses for excess waste generated by businesses, thereby reducing the amount of waste that goes to area landfills. Depending on organization needs, this position will also assist rural communities with obtaining and managing grants to upgrade their water and wastewater systems, help develop hazard mitigations plans and work on our region’s six-county climate action plan.   

Requirements:

• The ideal candidate will have a master's degree in planning or related field; however, we encourage individuals with different education and experience backgrounds to apply.
• Success in the position will require strong written and verbal communication skills; comfort interacting with businesses, elected officials and members of the community; flexibility; attention to detail; the ability to manage several projects simultaneously; and the motivation to complete projects and achieve IWE metrics with limited oversight.
