Seasonal Laborer (Farm) [MUST BE 16+]

Provides labor and maintenance services for designated park  and Old MacDonalds Farm, including grounds keeping, animal care, interacting with the public, and construction/repair activities.  Normally works as part of a crew.  Performs related work as required.

Supervision is received from Animal Exhibit Coordinator.  Also exercises independent judgement and authority for maintaining control and order.

2 Position Schedules Available:

• December-June weekends; 3 hours/day
• April-October (Part-time and full-time schedules available)

• Waters, weeds, mulches, cultivates, removes and hauls trash and reports as to the general condition of the farm area;
• Performs cleaning duties of all farm areas; paints as needed;
• Power washes animal sheds, cement, and fences;
• Mows and trims farm areas using push mowers, string line trimmers and other grounds maintenance tools;
• Loads and unloads hay bales and feed sacks;
• Works with general public running programs and events,
• Opens and closes farm exhibits and sets alarm;
• Records maintenance completed for designated area;
• Loads, unloads and applies supplies and equipment;
• Cleans duck ponds, animal pens, and farm areas;
• Leads programs and activities;
• Adheres to and enforces all farm rules and regulations;
• Maintains discipline and oversees farm facility;
• Takes care of farm animals and maintains good health;
• Monitors farm visitors and ensures they comply with farm rules;
• Performs all work duties and activities in accordance with City policies, procedures and safety practices;
• Attends work regularly at the designated place and time;
• Supports continuous process improvement initiatives;
• Performs related work as required.

Acceptable Experience and Training:

• Experience in working with animals, general labor, grounds maintenance, mowers, and related power tools. Requires experience working with youth and general public.

• Valid Iowa Driver's License.
